I went to the doctors last week to get my next pill prescription and he suggested that I get a cervical smear test done. I said I would book an appointment to get it done over the next few weeks but I'm really worried about it. I've never had one done before and was wondering if anyone could tell me what it involves and what kinds of things the examination can pick up?

In Canada as soon as you become sexually active or 18 years old, all women are encouraged to have a smear done. They insert a long cotton swab, that's what it looks like, and take a smear of cells. It picks up most STD's, cancer, or abnormal changes in the cells.
I have it done every year.
Good luck,

Yeah..I live in New Zealand and the same thing applies, they reccommend women to have one done as soon as they become sexually active, or turn 18. I'm slowly building up the courage to go, so I'm gonna get a friend to come along with me :P for support :P. Thanks for your help. :)
