I recently engaged in oral sex with a new boyfriend. We did not have sex and he only performed it on me. Infact I have never had sex and am a virgin so I know I could not have had an STD previously. anyhow what I was wondering is if it's possible to get an STD from him performing oral sex on me? I'm experiencing what seems like my period - but it's only 17 days after my last period. I also have swollen tonsils (but other members of my family have colds) I've heard both of these could be symptoms of gonnoreah. Is this true? am i being paranoid? Can I get an STD from him giving me oral sex & from kissing if he has the STD (I DID NOT give him oral sex)???? Am i being paranoid?
p.s. I did take an emergency contaceptive a week ago because we had fooled around and i figured it was better to be safe than sorry. (i've heard you can get pregnant just by being close and fooling around, touching etc.) Could this have thrown my cycle off? has anyone had this happen?
Please let me know!!!

I'm no doctor, but I'm sure anyone who went to medical school would tell you it's PROBABLY nothing to worry about. Although, when you do get a new partner (or decide to do more with the one you mentioned) you should get checked if only to encourage him to do the same.

Unfortunately so many of us are misinformed. Yes, you can catch STD's from receiving oral sex and vice versa. If your boyfriend performs oral sex on you and he has had a history of cold sores, there is a chance you could contract it genitally. All STD's with the exception of HIV are very easily contracted by way of oral sex. Be careful!

The cold sores have to be open and basically oozing to get it from what I read. The poor girl is very frantic. Chances are it is not a STD but if you are concerned go to your doctor. I've had oral sex with a partner with an STD and did not get the STD.
