Last year I went in for my annual pap. It came back ASCUS. I've been going for 8 years with no problems. Anyway I came in for a Colopscopy, ECC, HPV test, and 3 small biopsies. EVERYTHING came back negative, no HPV no dysplasia! I came back 2 months later for a follow-up and the pap came back LGSIL. They wanted me to come back for another colposcopy, but I said no and wanted another opinion. I asked my old Dr. in another state who said an negative Biopsy and HPV negative test is the same as a normal Pap. He thought maybe they had done the follow-up Pap too soon after my biopsies and that I wasn't healed all the way. Anyone heard of this? Please I'm so scared and have no idea what to expect now.

From what I have heard from many people that are experts on these issues is that yes HPV does cause cervical cancer but 1)it manifests very slowly 2)thwe bad outcomes are in people who do not take care of themselves such as going once a year for a pap. It seems like you take care of yourself. So I would not worry. If treated early Cervical dysplasia is usually nothing. Also....my cousin which is 28 had stage 3 dysplasia and she got the cells removed and now 5 years later she still has had no problem. She would have had a problem if she didnt go to the doctor on a regular basis.

But my Biopsies, ECC and HPV tests said I don't have anything wrong. So why does my Pap come back worse 2 months later? I haven't done anythng different than before.

Reason beaing....HPV or cell changes come and go. It becomes a problem when the pap tests keep coming back negative....remember hpv could be active or it can go into a "sleep" mode.
make sure you ask your doctor all the questions you have and communicate your worries. they get paid the big bucks to help people out. you will be fine

hey there...
similar thing happened to me.... I've had 2 babies, and had normal paps for the last 15 years... (i'm 32)... about a year and a half ago, i contracted chlamydia, and got pregnant... i started treatment for the std, and had an abortion.... lo and behold, my pap came back abnormal" the "low grade lesion" one... they did a colposcopy, doc said it looked good, come back in 3 months... went back in 3 mos, the pap got better and was ASCUS... come back in 3 months..again went back 3 months later and AGAIN it was the "low grade" one.... i was sooooo confused, because the paps weren't showing any infection present or any reason why this was still coming back abnormal, and what seemed to be getting worse... this last one i had done came back ASCUS, AND negative for HPV, this was the first time they tested me for HPV... i'm going in for another colposcopy in july just to make sure things are healing ok... but, i guess my point is that there's other things that cause these abnormalities that take time to heal themselves.... for mine it was getting an std and an abortion... my body is taking its time getting "back to normal"... my doc reassured me that i am on the right track..... and my next pap SHOULD be normal....
all i can say is i can be a poster child for being more careful while having sex... this all happened feb 2002.... and i'm still dealing with the aftermath of picking the wrong person to have sex with and continuing sex after the condom slipped off....
anyway, hope i helped a bit

DON'T WORRY ABOUT THIS IF YOUR HPV TESTS CAME BACK NEGATIVE THEN U ARE NEGATIVE. MY DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT ONCE U HAVE A COLPOSCOPY OR BIOPSY AND THEN U ARE GIVEN ANOTHER PAP TEST THE CELLS WILL COME BACK AS ABNORMAL BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT COMPLETELY HEALED.
