Human Papillomavirus - genital warts, contagious and spread during oral, genital or anal sex with infected partner. condoms will not protect you in most cases since it is spread by skin to skin contact. some types of hpv can cause cervical cancer. unfortunately, warts are pretty common. some people have hpv, but dont have the physical signs of the virus. virus is not curable, but the warts themselves can be treated. usually return.
kinda makes you think twice about screwing around, doesnt it?

i had NO signs. i only found out b/c my pap came back abnormal. went to see a specialist, where they put me under a microscope. they were only visible when super magnified. and they did a colposcopy (most PAINFUL procedure ever) which is a biopsy of the cervical tissure to ensure its not cancerous, then they burned them off by applying acid to the warts (not really painful, just awkward... i almost always passed out). then every three months for a year i had to go for a repeat pap, if they were all normal i could go 6 months, when that was normal i got to go back to the yearly pap. never saw them on my b/f, been w/ him for 4 yrs now and i've NEVER seen one on him, and since all of mine were internal i have no clue what they look like. heard they look like cauliflower but on a much smaller scale.

had a woman come in who had warts. she waited WAYYYYY too long for us to do anything about them (state health dept.) she had them so bad, there was hardly an opening to her vagina! she had to have them surgically removed. they were a head of cauliflower!
yeah, abnormal paps can show many things. but having numerous sex partners can cause abnormal paps too.

you most likely will not catch hpv from oral sex, that is an extreme case, so don't worry about that it most likely will never happen.

bob16 i have to disagree w/ you about catching hpv through oral. i believe it is highly possible, the likelyness of a wart appearing in your mouth is less likely, but i guarantee it's highly possible to contract the virus through oral.

i believe what you are saying, but my doc, told me that it was not possible. i also dated a girl for a long time who had watrs and i gave her oral plenty of times and nothing in my mouth.(knock on wood) maybe my doc just meant that because i my case i did not. what would it look like in the mouth? like a big wart?
