Question: I had a friend of mine, a doctor, tell me during a discussion the other night that sexually transmitted diseases like HIV and Hepatitis are grossely over-presented in the media. He said that in North American middle class wasp hetero communities, the odds of being infected with these diseases are EXTREMELY rare. I believe the statistics back him up on this? Comments?

P.S. WHat about other STDs?

that sounds accurate but the problem is every once in a while some of these people stray from the "group" and have sex with prostitutes or other people with STD's and bring it back to their significant other. from then on things just keep spreading.

I would agree with that as far as HIV goes, but not hepatitis. There are different types of hepatitis and they are much easier to transmit than HIV. Other STDs are also highly contagious due to not needing to enter the blood stream like HIV. No matter what the statistics show people should be aware that they can fall into that 1 out of whatever. Just ask those who are infected with different STDs!!
