Hi guys...I'm trying to grow my hair out.. (I've never had longer hair before!) and I'm finding it very hard, I haven't had a hair cut in 4 months and Im getting spilt ends.. and on top of that... it doesnt even look like its grown at all!! I was wondering if anyone has any tips. Or know anything that I could put in my hair (like around the house stuff..vinegar,honey..etc..) to make it stronger or something???

Give me some background on your hair (colour, texture, length, how you take care of it)...what shampoos/conditioners to do you use? Do you blowdry or heat style in any other way? Do you apply any leave-in products? How do you wear your hair during the day, at night, when you sleep, etc?

I'd be happy to talk with you, I'm actually in the same boat as you - I'm growing my hair out and it's been about 4.5 months since I've had a trim, too!

I have super long hair, what I can tell you to do is make sure to trim the ends a TINY bit everyone once in awhile and also brush your hair, ALOT. Maybe spend 30 minutes a night brushing it or after you get out of the shower. It took me a long time but that should help you see results. Of course, you won't always be the first to notice your hair is getting longer since you see it all the time. Good Luck! =)

My hair is brown, kind of thin, but not to bad. The length is right at my shoulders. I usually use Herbal Essence shampoo and conditoner(for normal hair.)
I dont blow dry my hair or heat style it, although maybe once every two weeks I will heat curl it.
During the day my hair is usually up, and at nite when I go to bed it's always down.
What about you? Do u use anything thats been helping??? Whats your hair like..etc..
I also heard thats its bad to brush it when its wet so I dont. I dont brush it alot even when it is dry though either.

Hmm Laria you sound like you're doing things right! My hair is a couple of inches away from being what is called BSL (bra strap length), meaning touching the back of your bra (so a good length down your back). My hair is dark blonde naturally, layered slightly and I'm actually not that nice to my hair. I straighten it with a flat iron 4-5 days a week, though I rarely blow-dry anymore (used to every day). I wear my hair in a loose braid to bed, and during the day I almost always wear it down.

Maybe you're tying your hair too tightly when you wear it up all day and that's causing breakage? I'm not quite sure why you're not having growth yet. Taking vitamins helps, especially the B vitamins. I know that sometimes hair grows in "spurts", so perhaps you'll have a growth spurt soon! I've gone 4.5 months without a trim like you and I have a couple splits I've seen, but it's not enough to warrant a trim. If you buy a silicone-based leave in product and apply it to the ends after washing your hair, it'll make the ends look healthier for sure...

I was just curious to how long you think youre hair has grown in those (4.5) months? Mine has grown but not anything drastic maybe one inch... or at the most two! Maybe I'm just not cut out to have long hair! but I am hoping for mine to get just as long as yours (lucky)!
I'm finding my hair to be limper the more it grows out, so besides silcone based conditioner do you have any more ideas... Or am I just a lost cause?!?!

My hair has probably grown about two inches as well...my hair definitely doesn't grow "fast", I guess it's pretty average. Hmmm as for other ideas...well if you find your hair is getting limp, maybe if you blow dried the roots of your hair upwards it'd help to create a little volume.

My hair isn't thick either, I think that maybe part of growing hair long is having to deal with it lying flat most of the time and being a little more limp that usual. How many girls do you see with long hair that's actually got body http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif As your hair grows longer, it'll become heavier and drag everything down with it, so I think it's natural for it to fall a little flatter. It'll still look pretty though, once you gain a couple more inches especially! If your hair isn't dry or damaged, you could try thickening or bodifying shampoos and conditioners...I personally can't use them because I need the extra moisture and conditioning!
