I think it probably depends on what you're doing. I always do my own colouring if I'm going all one colour (like back to my natural) and if I feel I'm pretty safe doing so. I know by now which colour and brand work the best and so it's become pretty fool-proof. If you're getting highlights done, or something that's way off the natural colour of your hair, I'd be more cautious!
