I straighten my hair almost everyday and I have terrible split ends! What can I do to not get so many (other than to stop straightening)?

im a guy but my sister cuts the end of her hair bit by bit, just trimming it little and try to spot the split ends. Be sure not to go overboard and not take alot off. Just start snipping little away at the end from time to time is good.

I straighten my hair almost every day as well and have a few splits too. I find that using silicone-based products has helped make my hair appear less damaged, even though silicones in the long run aren't so great for your hair. So far my hair responds well to them so I'm not going to stop!! Oh and the advice above is a good one, it's called "dusting" - get a tiny, very sharp pair of scissors and look at every single individual strand of hair and "dust" the ones with splits - just cut off the split and nothing else. Keeps your hair healthier without having to lose a lot of length going for a full trim!

Thanks! I really appreciate the info. Just one question, what are silicone products? never heard of this.

Any hair products that have ingredients with "-cone"...Pantene products have silicones in them...if you check the ingredients on the back of salon products you can see which ones have silicones and which don't! I personally use a straightening serum called Straight Sexy Hair, in the first five ingredients there is dimethiconol, cycolmethicone and phenyl trimethicone. It works really well for me! I also have the Straight Sexy Hair polishing gloss, first two ingredients being cyclomethicone and dimethiconol!
