Got this tip from a las vegas showgyirl.. she said that she shaved everyday, and applied unscented deodorant. IT WORKED!!! It prevents ingrown hair and red bumps. I recommend BAN..

How does the unscented deodorant prevent ingrown hairs and red bumps? Just curious...I think I will try it.

I have heard that before. Plus Ban has that new formula that doesn't irritate. I don't have a lot of problem w/ ingrown hairs, but a few! I might have to try that! Also, I recommend the Venus razor for your pubic hair.

I will have to try that. Yes, the Venus works great. I also use my man's Nivea shave gel for it. Cuz it's for sensitive skin and prevents nicks and ingrown hairs. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, i was using Mach 3.. i alyz thought using men's razor was better, because they glide over smoothly.. since its for the face. i didnt really like Venus.. but i'll give it another chance.

Not sure about preventing ingrown hairs, and not sure what effect this may have on other parts of the body. But the active ingredient in antiperspirant is aluminum. Its seriouly linked to breast cancer because the the metal being absorbed thru the skin. Not water soluable so it causes a mineral build up. Might be far fetched, but if a person can have a breast removed because of it...i'd hate to see what gets removed from preventing ingrown public hairs using it. It is a total myth that antiperspirant causes breast cancer! There are lots of places on the web you can read up on it if you worried about it.

Have any of you tried TendSkin? I use it on my bikini line and armpits after I shave. I haven't had to deal with ingrown hairs, or red bumps since. I love this stuff, although it is a little pricey.

Maybe I will try the deoderant, can it be a clear deoderant or does it have to be the white stuff?

Deoderant in the pubic area, lol,,,,,,,,,now thats someone Im assuming doesnt get much oral satisfaction,,,, imagine that taste,, lol. Im just kidding, yet I have NEVER heard of that,, I dont typically get ingrowns,, I slough dead skin cells , whole body, including bikini area, with not so harsh loofah, shave with antibacterial soap, and IF I do get a lil irritation, I apply bikinizone, found at all walmarts, kmarts, targets etc............ I shave everyday, and smooth as a babys bottom

I bought some unscented Ban that says it reduces irritation. I'll let you know how it works!

when looking, you can find information either pro or con about any issue. I will say this tho. My mother had breast cancer and was advised to use deoderant that does not contain anti-perspirant because of the aluminum content. the skin is the largest organ in the body. things do get absorbed by it and released by it. I also apply the next day even though I didnt shave.. its just helps with less itchness and if its still growing, it wont create any irriation w/ clothing, esp the underwear.

I use a product called Bikini Right. It works wonderfully and I bought it at Shopper's Drug Mart for about $5.99.

Ok, this whole Ban thing, like how would you use it in shaving? I'm a little new to the whole shaving the pubic area, so do you mean applying as a shaving creme device or as in an after shave type deal? Reply back please!

You can do a google search, just type in Tend Skin, you should find several sites. I really love the stuff. It has comepletely cleared up all ingrown hairs for me, it is a little pricey though, but worth it. Also they have a full guarantee, so if it doesn't work for you they will send your money back. Check it out I think you will be happy. Also you can do a search on healthboards, a lot of women here use it, there was a thread about it awhile ago.

apply Ban as an aftershave. And u can wipe out any excess if you put on too much.

TendSkin is the best; if I remember correctly the main ingredient is asprin. Somewhere I read a recipe for making your own. If I ever find it again, I will post it.

Another good alternative to Tend Skin is Follique. It's a little less expensive, works as well and (since I tend to need to leave it out to remember to use it)the packaging is much nicer. With either one of them I add a drop or so of lavender oil to make them smell better.
Next time I'm @ Sally's I will definitely check out the generic though!
By the way, Tend Skin makes a great shaving gel. It's called Air Shave. I only wax but my boyfriend had major problems w/ razor burn until he started using it.

I'm pretty familiar with the shaving of my gential hair, but have always had a pretty big problem with razor bumps and ingrown hairs. I'm going to try the shave gel & anti-persperant technique, I'll post to see if it worked for me. Since I'm male, I'll still use the good ole' Mach 3...

Hey - how the heck does this work?? I get tons of red bumps when i shave my pubic hair. So, are you supposed to apply the deoderant BEFORE you start shaving? or AFTER? Help! I don't get it, LOL. Please explain nice and slow.

So about this deodorant, you're using it in place of shaving cream? Or as a moisturizer afterwards?
I find that using hair conditioner instead of shaving cream works pretty well too!

3. Dry off, etc.
