A couple years ago I got an ear piercing called an industrial. It is a long barbell, about 12 gauge, that goes through one hole in the ear cartilage to another hole. After 2 years it didn't completely heal at the top hole and I ended up having to take it out anyway for cheerleading in October. I guess this is just the way it healed, but I have a pretty big bubble of skin where the hole on the top was, on the inside and outside of my ear. My doctor said it was a kiloid and I can't afford surgery. Does anyone have any ideas that might make it go away? I've heard massaging tea tree oil onto it works but I don't understand how the huge bubble of cartilage would absorb back into my skin! Please help me, it's so embarrassing when people ask about it all the time. I have to cover it with a bandaid so people stop staring at it!!!! :'(

There are bandages that help with keloid scars called Scar therapy from Curad. Also, I heard of Mederma. Its a cream or gel thats suppose to help with those type of scars and other scars as well. If you have a keliod, its the skin thats puffed out into a scar, not the cartilage. Unless your doctor told you your cartilage is part of the problem. You can look up Keloid scar on the internet to understand what its about. Take care

Yeah, mine still looked the same when it was pierced, only with a hole through it. Mine's really big though, is yours? Thanks for the replies guys. It's really bothering me how people just stare at it and ask stupid questions!

I have the same problem but I have 2 keloids. I think I got them from an injury I had when I was a kid. I have been seeing a doctor and have been getting injections in them once every 3 months. They are still there but this has been helping.

Sunshine, what has your doctor been injecting into them? I think it would be better than what I have now. Mine's huge! Thank you guys for all your suggestions! I'll let you know what's going on once I try the MSM cream and/or injections! *Tara

Just a thought - you might want to try micro-dermabrasion. I've had friends use it on scars and it helps a lot!
