i turned sixteen about 3 months ago and at around that time my hair has been falling out, but thinning all over not just at one spot. i lost some hair infront on my forhead. i was wondering if this is like male pattern baldness or someting because both my parents have kinda thin hair but neither of them are bald at all. is there anyway i can stop this? maybe im doing somethin to cause this? can anyone tell me if anything causes thinning hair and if it will grow back cuz im starting to get a little scared that maybe i'll lose all my hair.
what would be some good shampoos for this?

Are you on any new medication? Thyroid medication will think your hair, so maybe doing an online search for thinning hair will show something that isn't immediately obvious to you.
Some shampoos will cause your hair to thin also, such as Pantene. Are you dieting? Do you take vitamins? If nothing comes to mind that may be contributing to this, maybe a visit to a dermatologist would be the best thing to do before it gets too bad and your options for treatment, if any are needed, may not do as much as it would now when it's just starting.
If it's enough for you to notice, then something is going on and you really need to find out what so you can stop it before it gets any worse.
Let us know what you find out, ok?

You may have a low iron level beacause you don't eat meat and have a very poor diet (not healthy). I had it and my hair was falling out. Ask your doctor for a good iron supplement. Be carefull, not every iron supplement can be absorbed by your body so get some information.

Well, now that you've shared your diet with us, that's exactly why your hair is falling out. You can't live on salads. And a vitamin supplement will help but you still need to eat right. And I agree with the above poster - do NOT take iron unless your doctor says you're anemic and need it. So don't buy one off the shelf and use it. Your dermatologist won't know if that's what's causing it unless he does a blood test and checks, so please be cautious if he gives you a prescription for one without checking your blood first. I don't go to a dermatologist so I don't know if they do blood tests or not, but if not, have a regular doctor check you for low iron before taking a supplement. You can also look up anemia online or in a medical book and see if you have any other symptoms of it.

Hi~
I'm 23 and have also been losing my hair lately. I had a baby about 4 months ago and thought that might have something to do with it (the hormone changes). But, I also have been using pantene shampoo. Can that shampoo really make your hair fall out?!

oh and i have an other question, if it is lack of iron thats making my hair fall out and i fix this will my hair grow bad where it fell out and start toget thicker? or will it just stop the hair from falling out more?

Once you stop the hair loss, your hair should start growing back. I'm not sure if it's lack of iron or not as you would be having other symptoms if you had an iron deficiency, such as fatigue, pale nails, etc. Your doctor could tell from a blood test. I think you just need to start eating a 'balanced' diet and you'll be fine. You cannot live on salads, as not only will it make your hair fall out, it will make your gums bleed, your teeth rot, your skin look dull and gray...need I go on? You may be a little bit thinner but you're gonna look like hell. You can eat a balanced diet - which includes protein, carbs, vegetables - without going overboard and hoarding calories galore. If you really want to do it the easy way, eat Lean Cuisine or one of those good tasting meals that gives you everything you need without alot of calories. And some even give you dessert http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
And Hilery, yes Pantene will make your hair fall out. It will make your hair break off. It will make your hair feel like straw. I used it for quite awhile and guess what? My hair was falling out. My hair was breaking off. And my hair felt like straw and looked it. I have since switched to Dove Intense Moisture and simply can't say enough good things about it. If you want the hair you had as a child, Dove will give it to you.....but first, use Neutrogena to strip your hair of the waxy buildup that the Pantene coated it with so your hair is really clean. Then go buy yourself some Dove.
