Okay, I have battled with seb. derm. for a couple of years now and found some things that really helped.....many of them I found by accident. My derm. is very bad in the nose area, corners of my mouth and hairline/scalp. First thing that helps......chlorinated water! I discovered that for a couple of days after swimming, my face would be clearer. In fact, I even had my mother bring over a container of pool water to splash on my face every couple of days :). I was amazed. I also discovered St. Ives MEDICATED Apricot Scrub. It has to be the medicated kind. Now, you have to be gentle....especially over areas not really effected...but I have found nothing else that removes the scales like this stuff (and I think that the salycilic acid in it really helps too). I use it every other day and it's made a huge difference. As an added benefit, it removes all of the scale, revealing soft skin (who knew!), which makes it MUCH easier for topical medications to reach new skin and work better. I use an antifungal (ketarozole....something like that) and occassionally a teeny, tiny bit of hydrocortisone. I also began taking Yasmin birth control and I'm telling you, the oil in my face is GONE!!!!! This has helped a lot too! I discovered that using sunless tanner on my face helps (have know idea why, but I've heard this from others too.....just make sure to remove the scales first!). And using straight apple cider vinegar on the scalp helps too.....but it only helped me for a while. The bethamethosone mousse I have works much better.

Anyway, after tons of $$$$ spent at the dermatologist, these things really do work as well, or better, then some of the prescriptions I've had. I hope that maybe some of these things could work for you too :).

Thanks so much. My 18 year old has this on her nose and we're going to try the scrub and the water. She's already on the Yasmin. The creams don't seem to help all that much, and I worry about what the long term effect will be. Anything that may help we'll try.
