several months ago I used BP around my nose for some zits. ever since then it has been very red and flakes after I wash it. First I was diagnosed with seb. derm, the meds did nothing. Then perioral derm. I'm about 3 weeks into antibiotic treatment, the flaking stopped, but it's still very red. How long should this treatment last, and what else could it be? I've heard things about permanent BP burns, but, to be frank, that sounds like bs.

Hmmm...it could be exzema or contact dermatitis. You might try asking your doc for a prescription for elidel or protopic, 2 new topicals that are FDA approved for exzema but seem to work for other types of dermatitis and skin conditions as well. Also, let your doctor know about any other medications you might be taking. It could be a side effect of something.

i don't know how plausible this sounds, someone tell me. could it be from excessive manipulation of that skin? i spend a lot of time just stretching and pulling it to see how red it is. i mean, i would think that my skin could heal in 6 months despite being occasionally pulled, but what do you guys think?

I doubt it, unless your skin in extremely sensitive, which I'd think you'd already have discovered before this problem. Think about how much most women pull/rub their skin when applying and removing makeup, and most of them don't have that problem. However, I do notice that after I apply makeup, the flaking on my skin is more noticeable. I don't think the flaking is CAUSED by the makeup, but I think the friction caused by applying the makeup makes it more noticeable.
