I was wondering if anyone has every tried doing this on your own. I have dyed my eyebrows before and had no problems. I know they can dye them for you professionally, but I figure since i have the dye I can do it myself. When using black dye, is it going to be terrible if by some chance some gets in the eye? I know the eyes can handle a lot of things. We get different things in our eyes everyday and washing it out usually works. I just feel the label of blindness is a scare tactic. Either way I would place the dye on the lower eye lash with a q-tip, then close my eye and do the upper eye lashing. Then i'd wait and wash it off and proceed to the other eye.

Dying eyebrows are pretty simple to do your self, but please let a proffesional dye your eyelashes. If you do get some in the eye, and it doesn't make you blind, I'm sure it will burn really, really bad. Why would you take the chance of being blind just to save some money?

Well I'm pretty sure i would be able to do it on my own that's why I'm hesitant to go out of my way to have a professional in my face. I just don't see it as being that hard, I have really long eyelashes so i can easily control the q-tip with dye on it. I'm still thinking about it though i'm not dyeing my hair again till Sunday. If i take my time and stay away from trying to rush it, it should go well.

Ok well, then I hope everything goes well. Also, I'm thinking that they use different stuff than normal hair dye when they do eyelash tinting. But anyway, good luck. Will you post and tell how it went? I've never heard of anyone who could dye their own eyelashes.

Everything I have ever read about dyeing your lashes has been negative. Even if you see a professional, they could slip up and you could go blind. A good alternative would be a lash tint. Revlon makes one, I think called overtime lash tint, that can last for three days. Hope this helps http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

If you decide to go ahead with this, don't use a q-tip, they are too big and hold too much solution. Take a toothpick and twist a tiny amount of cotton around the tip, so that you have a very thin q-tip. I got this idea from a product called Lash & Brow, by Roux. They say to use the tiniest amount of cotton possible.
I wasn't that pleased with the Roux product. It stings if you get it on your skin and is almost impossible to get off the skin. Then the color didn't even last very long on the hair. I'm planning to try tinting my brows with Permanent Hair Coloring -- is that what you used on your eyebrows? I'm nervous about doing the lashes though, good luck with yours, be careful. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

BabyDoll117: Where have you read all this stuff? I'm going to do some research on it before Sunday and see what comes up. I remember in science class I got a chemical in my eye and i just washed it out at the eye machine and I was fine. I just find it hard to believe that there actually is cases of people going blind or damaging their eye. I understand if you dye your eye dark then it will have a dark spot there till it eventually fades haha. Sorta like with the skin.
Anyways Shadepra I just used Nice 'n Easy by clairol. 122 Natural black. My eyebrows were already naturally dark but I wanted them black. It is permanent but it's been a few months now and i can see dark brown hairs mixed with black. So yes it does fade eventually.
My hair is naturally brown mixed with lighter areas. Here's a pic of my natural colour.

I've been doing a lot of reading about dyeing eyelashes and the general consensus is not to use hair dye. THere are actual eye lash products out there. This particular review mentions their existence.

If im going to have to go out of my way to get an eye lash product then I have decided to get it done at a salon. I'm actually trying to find salons nearby that will do it. I will probably do them dark brown instead of black because the person in the review mentions that black can make you look like you're wearing makeup. But then again the rest of my hair will be black so maybe it won't be so bad? What do you guys think?

why do you want to dye your eyelashes? I would go dark brown, black is way too dark if your hair is lighter. If you are dyeingyour hair black though, go black. But I still don't really understand...why are you dyeing them? I have long light eyelashes that I wish were darker, but it seems like a waste of time and money to get that done. How long can it last for?

I want to dye my eyelashes because naturally my hair is darker anyways, and my eyebrows are dark. I don't like the fact that my eyelashes are a mix of dark and light, mostly light lower ones. So I figure i'll dye them. It's not very expensive. I found a place here that does it for 15 bucks Canadian. The stuff usually lasts about a month. That's pretty much the same amount of time hair dye lasts. Well hair dye doesn't fade if permanent, but your hair grows back and roots start showing.
