In a nutshell, unbalanced Testostarone levels can cause hair problems. For example I tried DHEA and one of it's affects on me was thinning hair. I stopped!!!
I take Biotin etc. for my hair now but the one thing that has made the biggest/fastest difference in thickening my hair back up is "Silica" in a liquid form, 30-50 mg. daily.. Like most everything else you take on a regular basis, it's good to skip a few days every couple of wks....

Nioxin cleanser worked for me. I use it instead of shampoo to block DHT and increase the body of my hair.

Silica is an element required for the proper functioning of the enzyme prolyhydroxylase. This enzyme functions in the formation of collagen in bone, cartilage, and connective tissue, making it beneficial for healthy hair, skin and nails.Silica is also a natural diuretic.*
I started taking Biotin 3 weeks ago and my hair has stopped shedding alot, i was told about taking Silica also and am looking into adding that to my daily vitamins.

Biotin is the best known supplement for the health and beauty of Hair, Skin and Nails.
Also referred to as Vitamin H, this vitamin promotes hair growth, protects against dryness and is involved in the biosynthesis of unsaturated fats.
Increases the elasticity of the hair's cortex preventing breakage.
It also thickenss the actual hair cuticle providing a fuller appearance because of the increased diameter of the hair shaft.
A lack of Biotin would result in dermatitis and hair loss.
Check your local Health and Vitamin stores they should carry it.

Biotin deficiencies are almost impossible.
Quote:
"Biotin is found in numerous foods and also is synthesized by intestinal bacteria and as such deficiencies of the vitamin are rare. Deficiencies are generally seen only after long antibiotic therapies which deplete the intestinal fauna or following excessive consumption of raw eggs."

I have terrible hair loss after using Lexapro an antidepressant. Have had this same side affect before but this time TERRIBLE. Even after stopping the Lexapro it is still coming out in large amounts. I will try Biotin tomorrow. THANKS. Its worth a try.
