My hair has been highlited quite a few times and the underlayer of my hair is bleached as well. Im wondering if permanent hair straitening will just break off my hair or if it will leave it healthy and sleek. And which ones do you guys know of? and do they actually work?

ive been considering permanately straightening my hair also. (because i have a perm) but im afraid also that it will break off my hair or make it brittle. i dont know have you tried straightening your hair with a flat iron? you can get them real cheap like at wal mart kmart stores like that. they usually work

Permanant straightening is not made for dyed hair. Go research japanese straighten and it will tell you african american hair and dyed hair are not candidates for the straightening, they will explain why.

My stylist said he's seen alot of people coming to his salon after japanese straightening, crying because their hair was falling out in clumps.

I would heed the warning from 5000tears.

Please research this before you do it.

I was considering getting my hair chemically straightened, but I just read an article on the net (sorry, I forgot where it was). Basically, your hair could fall out if you don't have a really good stylist... your hair will need extra special care.. it could become brittle and very damaged.. etc.. I don't think you want ur hair to fall out.. I guess I'll stick w/ my nasty wavy frizzy mess... lol

I think you're much safer investing in a good flat iron rather than getting it chemically straightened. The bottom line is that you're just putting more chemicals in your hair that will lead to future damage at some point. Eventually your hair will be worse off. Trust me, I know because I went years getting highlights over and over again thinking I was Ms. Invincible Hair or something - until last summer my hair just went to HELL. Waaaay too much chemical damage.

I straighten my hair with a flat iron I bought at a salon for $80 and it is worth it! My hair is quite long and it only takes me 15 minutes to do my whole head. It takes practice for sure (used to take me 45 minutes!!) but it is healthier. As long as you use a protective product beforehand and you are careful and informed, I really think it's a better decision for you! Any stylist who knows how to do Japanese Straightening (aka Thermal Reconditioning) will tell you that if your hair is dyed, there is much higher risk. It is NOT recommended.
