Maybe this grey hair at young age thing run in the family. Ask your dad or your grandfather if they did had grey hair when they were young.

I started geting grey hair around the age of 14-15.
Do you have really dark hair? Dark hair seems to grey faster. If you have just a few, pluck um out.
If you have a lot you could get some highlights put in your hair to blend them in. Or Just go blonde.
I've had to put up with hair cutters making comments about my grey for years with comments like "your HOW old with THIS much grey?" I now dye my hair fresh before getting a hair cut so they can't make comments.

hi!

i recently started to notice a few gray hairs also. i have about 4 or 5 of them, but in really noticeable spots.

my hairdresser told me that if your gray hairs are not in the two key areas where actually graying occurs, it is most likely stress.

i didn't want to take chances with hair dyes and stuff since i have naturally jet black hair so i found this mousse by loreal that is a color mousse. you put it in after you wash your hair and style as usual. the temporary color mousse washes right out after you wash your hair again. there are several companies (loreal, goldwell, etc..) that make similar products and you can find them at beauty stores. they are usually about $8-12 and they have them in all colors.

hope that helps!

Please don't take this the wrong way or think that I'm trivializing how you feel in any way...but maybe you shouldn't worry about it so much. 10 or so grey hairs is not a lot at all and stressing about them may only make more come on.

My fiance also started to grey at an early age (around 20). He's now 31 and still only has a handful of grey hairs.

Now my own personal opinion. I think the grey in my guy's hair (he has jet-black hair) makes him look very sexy and distinguished!! Look at George Clooney! He has peppered hair and he's a top sex symbol! Women love him!

I realize that this make not make you feel any better but its something to think about. You can always dye your hair to cover the grey.

Take care!

Cheers,

Nicola http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif

Grey hair is not caused from stress or anything else. It is a hereditary thing and nothing can change it, it's just part of who you are. I was a cosmetician and took many training sessions on hair through Clairol and L'oreal - for hair colors and all about hair. One trainer I had said she is completely grey, since she was a teen. Grey hair is really a piece of hair with no color, it's not grey. I also know a guy that's about 27, and he has tons of grey hair; he colors it to his natural color with mens hair color. Nothing to be too worried about, cause you can't change it. Lot's of men and women look great with greying hair...no matter what age.

I have quite a few grey hairs on my head, 19yo male. I think it's from stress, at least for me. I plucked most of them last week.

If your changing hair color is not the result of medication, sometimes adding Vitamin B as a supplement to your diet helps. Also there is a vitamin specificly for hair ... called Hair....It is very helpful.
The other choice would be to add highlights so it looks like you choose to have your hair that way. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/angel.gif

As an experienced early greyer (my mom found my first grey when i was 11) i can say it runs in the family.

at eleven i started using henna to cover the grey and the grey really enhanced the color job. After ten plus years of using dyes i have decided to just let my natural hair grow out for fer that i may dammage my hair beyond repair.

On the other hand xyz8910 suggested you ask your father or grandfather about early greying... but i would also suggest you go to your mother's side of the family and ask around there as well...

and by all means don't be worried.

I started getting a few white (not grey) hairs in middle school and now I have twenty or thirty mixed in with my black/brown hair (I highlight). However, the dye does not see to be able to adhere to the white hair, but everyone I know thinks it's super cool. I wouldn't worry about it!

Check this out I have 2 sisters and myself we were each BORN with 1 gray hair on our head in the same exact spot! I was born with jet black hair, 1 sister with medium brown and the youngest with red hair. we are all grown with children of our own and all the kids are red heads except my daughter(blond) and all kids have 1 gray hair in the same spot as us. so gray must be inherited. I am in early thirtys and my daughter just told me tonite that I now have gray hairs in my eyebrows.(o my god) I am actually grayer than my father.

my sisters are not showing signs of gray like I am so there must be something to having jet black hair. If anyone has tried the color mousse be careful. My one sister tried it for fun and 4 1/2 years later it still has not come out of her hair.

LOTS OF GREAT ADVICE. Grey hair is an absence of color. And Can Be Caused From STRESS, and damage to the follicle or root and is inherint and nothing you take into your body will stop the greys from coming! BUT you can hide or cover it up. Colored mousse is temporary(unless you have blonde or white hair) Henna type products don't completly cover grey but blends it. Or theres permanent color. Which is more damaging, but if you keep your hair short and use a good conditioner, its great. Wella and Clairol are good.
Clairol makes one called GREY BUSTERS. Find it at a beauty supply. Mix this with 20 vol. developer. And remember you arn't the only one!! GOOD LUCK!

Graying hair may also be cause from thyroid deficiancy, medications, exposure to certain chemicals, or illnesses. So, be sure to get a check up if you have greying hair with other symptoms. Don't assume that gray hair is unrelated to your health.

Prematurely graying hair is hereditary, but so is thyroid imbalance. MY mom's hair was prematurely gray and so is mine. We both had undiagnosed thyroid deficiency for many years.

I have known several men who had gray hair early. THeir hair was black and they were all of Irish decent. One of the guys was completely salt and pepper in high school. I was told once that in addition to the above mentioned causes, gray hair can be caused by a copper deficiency.

I am 20 years old and have more grey hairs then I can count!! It's pretty embrassing escipally when I encounter people and there like, "how old are you" and I say 20... and they god, "thats a lot of grey hair!"
I hate that!! Plus I'm a female so it really sucks!!! I dont want to die my hair since its bad for it but i guess I'm going to have it.

Gray hair is almost always hereditary, but could be caused by some medical conditions. The only way to get rid of it is to color, unfortunately.
To the people afraid of coloring: I have two good friends that were completely gray by the time they were 25 (both women) and one chose to color while the other stayed au naturel. I guess it depends on your skin color and general attitude to cosmetics, but I have to say that both have nice hair. Dye doesn't ruin it if you ADD color (like you do to cover gray), only if you bleach to go lighter.

Some people get premature gray hair. My girlfriend was totally gray by 21. She is now late forties. She has colored her hair for years. I have a 26 year old son that started getting a few gray hairs at 21. He is now having his hair highlighted (streaked). Frankly, it's hereditary, but at least if you are young you can do something about it like highlighting it or even dying it. Dyed hair on older men doesn't really look good but if you are young and have a young face, you've got lots of options.

BAH! I don't care if my hair purple, I'm glad to have it! Why would this scare you? It's genetic, you have nothing to worry about except an occasional dye job if it really bothers you.
