My boyfriend's sister came home from college this past week, and discovered she had contracted scabies from the dorms. She had been staying with us a few days, so we used the medicated cream prescribed to treat family members, but now I'm totally freaked out. I've read up on these "skin mites" and it sounds so horrible. We haven't had serious symptoms of itching or anything, but took the meds regardless. I also took all the bedding and washed it in hot water. We sprayed our furniture, etc. but I'm like psychologically freaking out. If I feel an itch, I start panicking. I also have a 4 year old, and I'm worried she's gonna break out. What else can I do in the meantime? Also, Does being "exposed" to scabies nessecarily mean you're definately going to get it?

Don't worry about it. Chances are, with washing all your stuff and all, you'll be fine. Being "exposed" is no guarantee you'll get it. And if you do... let's face it... no one *wants* to get it, but it's not a huge deal. If you guys get it, your doctor will probably give you Qwell lotion which will get rid of it. But using the Qwell before you know you've got it won't help you. My advice? Relax-- I bet you won't get it.

i had it in high school.... my sister and i both had it, so its hard to determine who gave it to whom.... BUT, we shared clothes etc... so, i'm sure that's why we both got it... my parents didn't get it ... all we did was wash ALL of our clothes.... and ALL of our bedding.... in very hot water... used the cream the doc prescribed, and poof, it was gone.... didn't recur, and like i said noone else in the household got it....

it is very psychological when you think about the itching..... it is in any case, not just scabies.... it's really pretty harmless ..esp. once its taken care of... you can relax...

Your alarm is well founded. I've fighting this battle for close to a year. Can't seem to kill them.
