Has anyone ever experienced this frightening ordeal? I wake up but am not really awake. I can see and hear everything going on around me but can't move. It use to petrify me but now when it happens my mind talks me thru it as I am aware that this happens. eventually I just am able to move. It very strange and would like to hear from anyone who has heard of it or experienced it.
Thanks, Bugsgal

It happened to me once. A scary experience. I was taking a nap one afternoon. I remember waking up and being aware of everything around me but couldn't move. I finally made myself go back to sleep. I was o.k. after that.

I remember when I was young, my mom telling me about this. She told me that if ever I went into her bedroom one day and could see that her eyes were open but wasn't able to move, to push her. She told me that she had experienced that a few times and that it was very scary.

I wonder what makes that happen.

I HAVE NARCOLEPSY AND THAT KIND OF THING IS COMMON WITH ME. I HAVE LEARNED TO LIVE WITH IT AND A LOT OF OTHER THINGS THAT IS ASSOCATIED WITH THIS CONDITION.
IT IS SCARY AT FIRST, BUT YOU LEARN TO CONDITION YOURSELF TO COPE WITH IT.

Please do not use all caps. In computer language that is shouting.

bugsgal:

Some call that twilight sleep, where you are so deeply relaxed you can either go back to sleep or get up, fully awake.
In fact my therapist taught me to go into that state of mind to make myself relax.
It is nothing to worry about, it is harmless.
Even if it happens with Narcolepsy, it is still harmless.
