Hi ev1.... I have trouble sleeping because sometimes when I start to doze off I suddenly get jerked awake and my heart feels like it does flips or something. Then once in awhile when that happens I feel tremors in my body or like a buzzing feeling or something. Hard to describe but it is really strange. Doctor didn't find anything so I'm thinking I will have to see a specialist. I didn't get any sleep whatsoever this time and when I tried to sleep a little while ago I got jerked from my sleep again. Sometimes I will get to sleep sometimes I won't. Sometime's I don't get to sleep until 4 a.m.. Does anyone know what this could possibly be? Thanks!

I'm afraid I can't help you with what could be causing your lack of sleep, but I would still like to tell you that your not alone. I suffer from sleep deprivation, getting roughly an hour of sleep per night, so we can suffer together. Take care.

That's terrible! Is it that you just have a hard time getting to sleep?

My goodness but you have just described exactly what I was going through earlier in the year. Mu doc. had no idea and had never heard of anything like the 'vibrations' I was feeling. I ended up on a low dose of sleeping pills for a month and not being one for pills I gradually weaned myself off them. I am also menopausal and was using Estrogen patches. I stopped them two months ago and haven't had the jerk awake and heart palpitaions since but I do still get the vibrations. I was on a Holter monitor for 24 hours last Monday, of course, no vibrations that night. I am still awaiting the results.
Have you learned anything else about these vibrations ?

Sounds like you may be over stimulated, during awake hours. When your body tries to relax, it can't. Try reducing caffeine and nicotine intake, if you use either. Also I suggest cutting down on carbonated drinks. This should help.

Nope, not over stimulated (I should be so lucky :)
I gave up coffee many years ago due to palpitations, and I never drink carbonated drinks, too gassy. I do have the odd cigarette. There is no specific thing that can cause these vibrations and I have never come across anyone else having them except Arizona Dreamin.

Hi AD and JessieJo

I have just peeked in at this board because it was the first one I came to when I had exactly the same symptoms in December.
During the day I would have tingling, numbness in my lower legs and feet on and off. I then got these AWFUL twitches, jerks, jolts when trying to sleep. These made sleep impossible for me and I became desperate. I could go on.......To cut a long story short I thought I had MS or something neurological wrong with me. The story goes on, what I actually had was anxiety and depression I couldnt believe it!!!. The adrenalin from the anxiety was causing the jolts (even though I didnt feel anxious). I became very ill mainly due to lack of sleep and disbelief that I needed sleeping tabs, anxiety meds and antidepressants . I realise that it was anxiety and depression now because when the antidepressants kicked in I started to pick up and am now better.
I now use mainly the stress and anxiety board, why not pop over and see if we can help.

Good luck in your search for sleep

The vibration sensation is really wierd and it's hard to describe. My doctor looked at me like I was crazy when I told him about it. Haven't had it happen much lately though.
I also gave up caffeine awhile ago due to plapitations. Strange stuff.
Good luck! :)

Hi Lizzy!
Glad you are feeling better. I wasn't having those things during the daytime. Just when I would start to doze off for some reason. But like I said before, it has gotten better and hopefully it will stay that way! :)

I saw the cardiologist today. I have an extra heart beat every now and again but its not life threatening and is pretty common. I asked him about the vibrations and he had never heard of them either, he sort of chuckled when I described them but he did say he would see if he could find out anything. About the jerks, he said they were possibly mycolonic jerks, thats some sort of ever so slight fit !!! He too reckoned it was anxiety, same as my GP. I am not the anxious sort till this stuff starts to keep me awake, then of course I get stressed out ! Anyway, they are not happening at the moment so I just keep my fingers crossed. I am still not sleeping well because of the night sweats but at least I know the cause of these ... hormones :(
