Since I've developed this sleep disorder, 14 months now, I've developed small areas of hair loss, i.e. alapecia. Some of the first areas to have lost hair have regrown, however, I continue to develop areas that lose hair. It is my belief that it is the stress caused to my body due to sleep deprivation that is causing my hair to fall out. My scalp will actually burn/hurt in the area where the alapecia is developing. Am I the only sleepless person out there to whom this is happening???? We are all so terribly sleep deprived on this board; however, I never hear of anyone else losing their hair over this!!!! I'm 37 years old. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thank you. Pam ~

you are not alone! i am 26yrs old and as my sleep disorder began, i started with small patches of hair falling out and my head does get a stinging sensation when this happens. i dont want to scare you but i ended up loosing all my hair, not only on my head but my whole body. my hair began to grow back white and that fell out and grew back brown which i was very excited about until just a few weeks ago all my hair fell out again. i saw a dermatlogist who said scientists do not know the cause behind alopecia but it could be genetic and usually has to do with your autoimmune system. the white cells start attacking the hair follicles. he also said that if there is a family history of allergies, eczma or hayfever then you are more prone to this happening.
i don't really know what advise to give you but just wanted you to know that your not alone.
take care!
