Hello. I am 17 yrs. old, and am a senior in school. During the morning, I have a 2.5 hour brake from school, so I come home and nap for 2 hours. The problem is, SOMETIMES, I have bad dreams, and they make my sleep not good. It's weird, because they only come during that time, not during the sleep I get during the night. One factor might be is that I eat a bowl of cereal before I take my nap, which they say not to do?? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

maybe you are wound up during this time and there is a lot on your mind...that could cause bad dreams to come...

I think that you are very concerned about your problem and I am thinking that if you would like, you should go to a doctor. But that is completely your opinion.!! Your dreams actually come from what you are thinking about at the time and they are really photos type things in your brain. (cool huh?) Hope you get better!!!

Hi, I can relate to weird dreams when taking naps.

One thing that may be happening is that you're not getting enough REM sleep during your nightly sleep.

You must be falling into REM sleep fairly quickly, and possibly having a longer period of it to make up for the time you've missed.

If you're concerned about the dreams...as Angelgirl said, it's your subconscious in picture/symbol form.

Get a good book on dream interpretation. Dreams are good!! Even the scary ones.

I dream allllll the time, am a night person which I don't really like, and since I don't have to be up early, sleep takes me to a crazy dream world. I've always dreamed, I love dreaming, and have taken some time to analyse them. There are many consistencies.
I'm now also on an antidepressant Effexor XR and my crazy dreams have become more vivid.

Yes, they can be disturbing, but they are what you're thinking in the subconscious. Also, things that you experience in your everyday life plays a big part in if those are symbols that are used in your dream.

I found that examining them from a more conscious level makes them less scary.

Are you taking any mood altering drug (s)? Anxiety and stress also play a big part in sleep and dreaming.

I suppose the best way to prevent your dreams from being so bizarre is to get plenty of sleep at night.
But, I'm the last person to give that advice, although it is the best I know.

Don't worry about the cereal, milk and carbohydrates they would encourage you to sleep. You could try not eating before, but I bet you'd wake up feeling crappy and shakey. Do you eat breakfast before you go to school? something with protein would keep you through till after you sleep, then have lunch.

I have always found that being a participant on a conscious level, especially with dreams makes it a whole lot less scary. Don't take them for face value, because sometimes the bad weird things actually make a lot of sense in a good way.

Hope you have better dreams,
quincy
