Just wondering, how much, if any, weight have you gained before you found out that you had a sleep disorder?? Also, what other symptoms did you have?? Thanks, Shelley

I actually lost weight, but I am an "atypical" case. I have read that any sleep deprivation can cause metaboism to slow and appetite to increase, so when you combine those, it could lead to significant weight gain, esp. if she's too tired to exercise, which I know I am. I can't even handle much housework at a time. My symptoms were dayttime tiredness and nighttime disturbances. I read that your daughter doesn't sleep well, but you weren't specific why. When I went in they were expecting narco. At night I awaken repeatedly and sleep very fitfully. I also have panic attacks which are triggered by apnea episodes. I seem to dream all night because I awaken so freq. during REM sleep. I can also sleep for 10+ hours and still wake up feeling like a Mack truck ran me over. I know this may not help any, but I hope your daughter gets diagnosed soon and can start feeling better. Let us know how she does.

Thanks, she doesn't sleep well partly because (I think) her tonsils are large, and they think she has large adenoids. I have been putting off having them taken out because I have been told they usually disappear before they turn 18. She hasn't had an episode of tonsilitis in almost 2 years (this july). Thanks for you input! SHelley

How old is your daughter? Sometimes the tonsils and adenoids remain enlarged into adulthood. This is one of several surgical treatments some people have for apnea and/or snoring. I'm interested to know about the thyroid results, too. I was dx'd with hypoT at 13, and started piling on the pounds-I reached 150 in 8th grade(5'2")--I was 90 lbs. in 6th grade. I've been off meds for 2.5 yrs. and it's since then that I got my dx of apnea. That is actually where I'm starting my quest for a cure.

My daughter is 14, but weight started literally "piling" on about 7 years ago....She always has been a larger than normal girl (she weighed 10lb. 15 oz. at birth), but I mean like gaining alot of weight. I didn't hear back from the DR office yesterday, so I am going to call them first thing Mon. morning, AGAIN!! Thanks, Shelley
