I am 25 years old and I am scheduled for a lingual tonsillectomy in two weeks. It has been very hard to find information on this procedure. It is associated with sleep apnea often, so I figured I would try this forum. I do not suffer from sleep apnea that I am aware of but my lingual tonsils are severely enlarged. If anyone has had this procedure, please give me some insight. Thanks.

I was just wondering if you got any responces on this issue. I was told a few days ago that mine were huge and they were going to try steroids and antibotics to get them down. Only problem is that I have done 3 rounds of antibotics and they did nothing. And my doctor said they never take these things out. However I am a pransplant paitent and do not have a immune system to fight the infection that will allow them to come down. So now I am a little worried about it.

I also have enlarged lingual tonsils and have found little information on the surgery. I have had my adnoids and other tonsils already removed. I keep getting horrible strep that puts me in the hospital for a few days because i can't eat or even swallow my own saliva. I did have a consultation for surgery after a referral from my ENT and the surgeon I spoke with said that this surgery "is inhumane and one of the most painful surgeries that can be performed" he did list some of the complications and I decided at the time not to go through with it. After my recent hospital stay I am ready to look at surgery once again. What has anyone else heard?
