Hi, Does anyone experience this at bed time. I get real sleepy and when I go to bed I can't fall asleep. For the last 6 nights I have got about 6 hours sleep total for 6 days. What is wrong with me. I am like a zombie during the day (real tired) but when it's time to go to bed I am wide awake. I do get sleepy but I lay there awake until morning. I'm going crazy. Does anybody have any advice? I recently had a change in my job schedule. I wondering if that is the case. Before I was sleeping fine. Thanks for listening.

I've tried that out of desperation lately! But then I just have to get up and pee every fifteen minutes...

I know the feeling - when I experience this it's mostly because I am stressed - either by something outside (changed job schedule?) or some unresolved matter in my mind.

In any case:

Advice 1: go to bed but don't try to sleep.
Trying to sleep will just make you more stress and sleepless.
You're there to relax. That's enough. If you fall asleep that's fine. If you don't you still had a chance to relax.

Advice 2:
Have you tried listening to some calm, soothing music when you go to bed? In case you're interested, here's an article on how you can do that - there's a section on sleeplessness too. http://www.*************.com/music_medicine.htm

Wishing you all the best

Oops, I just realized it's not possible to give you the link here. Maybe this part of the Internet is disconnected from the rest? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif

Well, if you'd like more info, just ask. I'll do my best to help - without links http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I have had the exact same problem also, and have tried many solutions. FYI the drinking until you pass out solution is definitely not the way to go.

Non-drug solutions could be using relaxation techniques such as meditation, and/or using a white noise machine. I have suggestions on each if you are interested.

Medical solutions could be trying an OTC sleeping pill for short-term relief, but for long-term problems you should consult with a physician and possibilities include trying a hypnotic, benzodiazapem, or trycyclic anti-depressant medication. Psychiatrists are much more familiar with these classes of drugs than are GPs.
