Hi, I have taken Ambien for about 4 years to treat insomnia. I would split a 10mg pill and take half at bedtime and half about 3-4 hours later. I usually would drink 2 beers to relax me and help me to get to sleep. Here is the problem, 1 week ago I had a severe panic attack in the morning at work. It really shook me up and I am still trying to deal with it. I have had several minor panic attacks in the past.
I never had any panic attacks before taking Ambien. Has anybody else experienced this, or are they unrelated to the Ambien? I have stopped taking Ambien for now and am not getting much sleep.

hi. i've also been taking ambien for several years. i currently take 20mg a night (which still doesn't knock me out). i haven't noticed any side effects from it, apart from memory loss when being awake after taking the medication. i do suffer from anxiety disorder and take 4mg of xanax a day to address that. it's possible that you may have a depression or anxiety issue, worth mentioning to your doctor.

I quit taking Ambien completely 5 nights ago. I also quit drinking coffee at the same time. I did not sleep the first few nights, rebound insomnia, and am suffering alot without coffee. Last night I actually slept about 6 hours. I woke up every 2, but then was able to go back to sleep. I feel that I just might make it.

good luck with sleeping. :) you might be having a double whammy right now cuz yer probably dependent on the ambien for sleep and if you're a big coffee drinker, most likely addicted to caffeine... hope things go well. i've stopped taking ambien before and when you first stop, it's hard to sleep without it the first few days or so.
