Hello, Just wanted to share how i quit smoking.
I smoked for about 8-9 years.
Since I was 19. Pretty much a pack a day. When i was 24 I had my daughter.
I didn't smoke for the whole 9 months. but went back after i had her.
Anyway I quit smoking a year and
4 months ago. At first I tried the Gum.... I was doing well for about 2-3 days and i would cheat and smoke one. I guess I didn't want to stop 100%. But ever time I had one I was like WHAT AM I DOING?
And I started to ask myself WHY do i need this? Why do I want to pay tons of $ to kill myself? What am I so stressed about or not happy about that i need to do this to my health?
I did lots of thinking. And at the same time Fear kicked in... If I don't stop I have a chance of getting cancer and all that. And most of all I want to live long for my daughter.
After surfing he net and finding out there's 4000 toxic things in one smoke I Was like Ok its time....
So one day I said THAT"S IT!
and with out the gum, I quit.
Never touched one since then.
I know it's hard but you have to want to quit. you have to make up your mind.
When it was hard, I used to picture myself at the Drs. him telling me bad news cuz I smoked. Then I would be like OK I don't need it...lol
It helps alot. IT"S ALL IN THE MIND!
I went to the ER 2 months ago cuz my heart was beating real fast and all. They took a chest X ray. And that was the 1 st time I ever had that done.
When I was waiting I was like WHAT IF they find soemthing in my lungs!
and you know how they make you wait and wait... Omg I was scared Big time.
But lucky Everything was fine...
When people smoke they never think of gonig to get a chest Xray.. fear its self would want to make yuo stop I think.
I just told my self I'M NOT LETTING THIS CONTROL ME i'M GONIG TO CONTROL IT.
Good luck to all of you
U CAN DO IT! Take it day By day.

Thanks Emi106 for sharing your story, and good for you for TAKING CONTROL!
I smoked for 18 years. I tried quitting using the nicotine patch as well as the gum and was unsuccessful both times. This time I quit cold turkey and I feel great. I agree with you that it's all in your mind. When you're truly ready to quit it is so much easier!

Hi AshLin,
Your quit date is my wedding anniversary! My quit date is May 27, 2002, and I will never forget it either.
I like your idea of buying your favourite perfume. I rewarded myself by going for a shopping spree once I'd NOT SPENT the equivalent of $200.00 on cigarettes. That didn't take long at all. Cigarettes around here have gone up to $7.00 (Canadian) a pack!

I quit cold turkey three years ago. I had smoked from six years to sixtytwo years old. sure i still have cravings, but i don't give in to them. I reckon that you will always have wants to smoke, but you just have to have enought will power to say no. you can't buy bull duram in a bag, i don't think, that was my frist cigarettes, when i started. well, no more I'm free now and plan to stay that way.

Hi, all--
I just quit smoking June 27--I said to myself:
Self!...what are you doing? It's been 15 years. You are sucking in this smoke and killing yourself. I pictured myself lying in bed--dying of cancer--and apologizing to my mom for smoking. --watching the story about Carol Burnetts daughter dying of lung cancere helped, too. So...I just stopped. :)
My fiancee also smokes. He was smoking the Camel Wides and tried to quit but, is having a hard time. He has stopped smoking in the house and around me as a courtesy and, switched to Marlboro Lights (woopie) But, its SOMETHING. I think he will be able to do it eventually.
I'm proud of all of you who have stopped and those of you trying to.
Peace-
Shawnee

HI All, Well I quit on 3/3/02. I smoked for 26 years! I quit with the patch, it worked great for me, but not for my husband. He is still smoking. I had tried the patch before, but I guess this time I was ready. When I was pregnent with both my kids, I stopped smoking and went right back after they were born. Now they are 21 and 16.
I have been having a lot of physical problems since I quit. My doctor says it is due to the shock my body is going through. I have joint aches, breathing problems, depression (chemical imbalance), skin breakouts and weight gain. I've been to the doctor, my blood is fine, my lungs are good, etc. I started exercising about 2 weeks after quitting, but still no weight loss.
Anyway, just wanted to give you all my story. I smoked for a very long time, but I know now that I have quit for good.
