hi, this is the first time i realized they had a board for smokers too. i have been smoking for about 13 years. i quit about 8 years ago for about a year and a half, but started back and have not been able to quit since. i want so bad to stop, my kids have been begging me for a year now, and i've tried but after about 4 or 5 hours with no cigs i start losing my mind..... and my patience. i also have this weight problem i'm battling right now, and i'm so afraid if i quit i'm going to pile on more pounds, and God knows my body couldn't handle that. has anyone found something that has really helped them quit smoking? if so can you tell me what is was so maybe i can try the same thing? i appreciate your time and congratulations to those of you who have quit. good luck to those of you who haven't been able to. thank you and God bless! :)

What helps quitting is to let everybody around you know that they will have to put up with your bad moods for a while. I have been depressed and very moody on and off since quitting smoking a few months ago and I have had many cravings for food, so I would buy bags of seedless grapes and baby carrots and berries to munch on, had lots of fruit and fresh fruit juice. This way I was cleansing my body, quitting smoking and munching on healthy yummies at the same time. It has been tough, mainly because of the cravings for food and the mood swings (and NOTHING to fall back on but yourself when you feel like having a nervous break down or when you feel depressed), but it has been SO WORTH IT. I am disgusted with the smell of cigarets now and can't believe I was a smoker for so many years, YUK. I feel so healthy, my skin looks much much better, I don't waste all this money anymore and I feel I have such willpower and determination.
I know for a fact that I will NEVER be fooled by such a dirty and deadly habit anymore. I can not smoke anymore cause I tried it once and it was like I was inhaling exhause fumes, it hurt my throat really bad, like inhaling for the first time. I had to throw away the cigaret.
This is the biggest change in my life and I am sooooo thankful to myself, even though i had to go through depression, anxiety, food addiction (I would force myself to exersize for hours to burn every chocolate bar i would eat, and i have finally conquered my food addiction too), and put my relationships at risk.
I am now, for the first time in my life, totally addiction free (no cigs, no coffee, no drugs, no fast food)!!! I still have to recover from being depressed after quitting, but I'm getting there, have tons of hope again and I look great, feel really good and don't miss cigarets at all.
Quitting smoking is much more than just quitting smoking, it is changeing your life. Cigs are more addictive than heroin!!!
I did it, and I am very proud of myself, and so are the people around me, and I feel like I can do anything I dream of now. Quitting smoking is about willpower.
Don't fall for unhealthy addictions like food and cigarets and coffee and medication. It's all fake.
I live on fruit and air and love now and I feel this is the beginning of my new life!!!!!!!!
I quit smoking without the use of patches or gum. It was really tough but patches didn't work for me since I was into the'shot' of nico and not this gradual thing. Also you have to think of putting them on and if you forget it makes you want to smoke. I just wanted to quit 'cold turkey', which is the hard way but it worked.

this is what you should replace smoking with:
- eating tons and tons of fresh fruits and juices (if you get ill, this is good it just means your body is getting rid of all the toxins, you'll get much better afterwards)
- exersize
- breathing exersizes (when I quit, at first, I would sometimes forget to breath, or not breath enough, this was only in the beginning though)
- stay away from cigs or people smoking
- invest in your relationships cause you're going to need it.

Good Luck!!! You can do it!!!

thank you 2 so much and congratulations. i am very proud of both of you :), smoking is such a hard thing conquer. i will try using both of your suggestions together. i thought by smoking menthol (i only smoke non menthol, can't stand menthols) that i'd cut down and be able to quit, but as nasty as the cig tasted i found myself still smoking the same amount of cigarettes, but the menthol made my throat hurt....lol. thank you so much for your replies and again congratulations. it is wonderful you 2 have been able to give up smoking :) take care of yourselves and God bless!
