Hi everyone! I am new to this board and just needed to vent a little. My husband and I have decided to have a baby. I have done everything right...got off pills 3 months ago, changed my diet to include lots of fruits & veggies, cut out all but 1 glass of Diet Coke a day...replaced with water, juice and milk, stopped the ocassional alcoholic beverages. The only thing I have left to do is quit smoking. I would, without a doubt quit smoking today if I knew I were pregnant, but I'm not so I continue to smoke. I have cut back from 1 pack a day to 1/2 pack a day. I quit smoking once before...cold turkey....for a year. It has been 2 1/2 years since I started back. I need to do it cold turkey again because it really was not that bad last time. STUPID ME, though, I just had to start again. I have decided that this Sunday will be my last day to smoke. I guess I just need a little encouragement, as selfish as that sounds. I have to do this for me, and my child (eventhough he/she has not been conceived yet). Thanks for listening and good luck to you all.

I think is great that you want to quit smoking before you get pregnant! You can prove to that baby how much you love it by quitting. ;)
GOOD LUCK!

Hi Terry
I know how you feel. I'm also trying to get pregnant and quit smoking at the same time. Difficult isn't it?
My problem is I live in Greece where 99.9% of the population smoke, including of course, my huband and all our friends.
Been trying to conceive for 2 yrs, so now, I'm really going for it. Healthy lifestyle and all that. (God, who am I trying to kid, I'm smoking right now, while I'm typing!)
Anyway, I must think of the unborn baby. I do feel though that once a pregnancy is confirmed I'll quit immediately - it's just this not knowing that causes the stress!
Best of luck in your efforts, take care Nicky

Well, it's good that you are trying to quit BEFORE you get pregnant! But, just remember that one singel cigarette takes a full month for all of the junk to get out of your system,(at least for the things it doesn't permanentally damage). So you have to wait a month for every cigarette you've ever smoked in your life before you should even TRY to get pregnant. If you don't believe that, then just look at me, i'm a product of tobacco (have MS and severe migraines, and learning disabilities!!)
