My name is Sami and i am in my final year of University. As im sure all of you post grads out there know the final year is heavy and stressfull.
I find 1 cigarette either after my meal or while im working helps relax me. But im concerned as ive heard that it doesnt matter if you smoke 1 a day or 20, your still doing the SAME damage to your lungs.
Is this true?

No of course not. Is one drink a day the same as 20? Is eating the occasional junk food the same as eating it at every meal?

If you're able to limit it to one that's fine. It's just that it's so addictive you'd be better off finding out an alternative stress reducer. Go for a walk, do some vigorous exercise, listen to music.

I started in college also with just a couple a day, 27 YEARS later the hacking cough, stench and cost drove me to quit. It's been a year and I still crave them but I won't go back.

Life is always going to be stressful..work, relationships, marriage, children.

It's good that you're questioning it before you possibly become addicted. I wish I had had that insight at your age. Good luck

Hi! I totally agree with Tup. I could not have said anything better. You're playing with fire: right now 1 a day is enough. But if you keep it up long enough, chances are good that you'll feel you need 2, then 3, and so on. Try stopping; and see if you feel any pull to light up again. If you do feel the pull (cravings to smoke) then just imagine how difficult it is for a person who smokes much more than 1 a day. Exercise is a great stress reducer. I can be all stressed out...but after I exercise, I feel much more relaxed. My best wishes to you. Get free of nicotine! Debbie
