Well, it's almost the New Year. Has anyone made to quit smoking their New Year's Resolution. I posted on this board many months ago. I am ttc and had decided to quit smoking. I am disappointed in myself because I have not yet kicked the habit. I am really going to try to quit for New Year's. I have not conceived yet and it's probably for the best. I do not want to anything that will cause my unborn child damage...and smoking will do it. I will be back after the 1st to let you know how I am doing.

I too am quiting for the New Year. Been smoking way too long and will be using the patch. I was smoke free for 3 months but started again due to stress. Guess I need to find some other way to handle stress. I am determined to do it this time. I plan on saving my $5.00 a day. Good Luck. You can do it!
Happy "Smokeless" New Year.

I had my last cigarette at 11:59pm 31 December. Now it's 7 days later--although 1:20am on the 7th. I've been having trouble sleeping since I stopped a week ago. Had more feelings, especially anger. I've been hungry a lot, but I've filled up on vegetables and raw almonds (someone suggested almonds to me). I AM glad I've stopped (both my parents died of tobacco related illnesses), but I really would like a cigarette right now.... :)

Hey tcb surprise surprise! Didn't expect to find any of my ttc buddies over here. Yep I'm a smoker too, desperately trying to give up for all the obvious reasons!
Met a great lady on these boards a few months ago and we made a pact to stop together. I lasted about 2 weeks, she on the other hand is now in her 3rd month of being a non-smoker. I'm so proud of her but also a little jealous - why cant I do it too? My hubby and I have both smoked for about 8 years - I've tried the patches which worked for the first 2 weeks but I just dont have enough will power when absolutely EVERYONE I know is a smoker, It's all around me all the time.
Hope you keep to your resolution - as for me, I'm so stressed out about getting pg (and losing a bit of weight too!) that I haven't a hope in hell of giving up the cigs just yet. I'm kind of hoping that the minute I know I'm definitely pregnant I will stop automatically for the sake of the baby.

Well, this is a suprise Laroussi! I'm glad to know that I am not the only one ttc and still smoking. I feel so selfish about it. No, I did not stick to my resolution...didn't evern try as a matter of fact. I just couldn't do it. I know, without a doubt, that if I find I'm pg before I quit, I will quit immediately, but I know that it can still cause damage to my child. My doc said that if I stop as soon as I know, the baby will be fine, but I just don't believe that. I have known so many people that smoked when they were pregnant...the whole 9 months...and all of their children are finr, but I know that is not always the case. I really do hope that I am able to quit before I conceive, but it's not likely. I quit before for a year. Why I started back I don't know. We moved and I was stresses and the only thing that made me feel better was a cigarette. I am so glad you stopped by here because I really needed someone in the same situation to talk to. I can't talk about this on the TTC thread because I know there are some there would go nuts on me and I don't need that...it would make it worse. Once again, I feel so quilty, but can't stop yet. Maybe I will have really bad morning sickness bery early on and it will be easy for me to stop. How's that for wishful thinking? Maybe we could try to stop together. That's an idea. What do you think?

HI there
I know what you mean about not raising this on the ttc thread - I feel kinda guilty and the comments I get from people who know I'm ttc should be enough to put me off - but of course they dont! I too know women who smoked through their entire pregnancy and have wonderful healthy kids. In fact my best friend asked her doctor and he said that the stress of giving up the cigs could do possible HARM to her unborn baby!!! I dunno, I live in a country where about 80% of the population smoke, including, obviously, her doctor!!
I would love to try and give up and if we have each other for support maybe this time we can do it. At least I know I've found someone who's a smoker and also trying for a baby - dosen't make we feel so awful!
How many do you smoke? I'm on Styvesant Lights, 25 pack, every day. Tried cutting down to a lower tar/nicotine level but I just smoked more to get a decent flavour!
Anyway, please stay in touch - I notice you pop in several times a day, obviously bored at work?! I work from home so I'm also mucking about on the computer all day. Catch you later...

Laroussi-Girl! I will be checking in all the time at this board since I know you're hear and in the same predicament as me. I smoke Malboro Lights...a pack a day, but sometimes a few more on the weekends. I have also heard that if you stop smoking mid pregnancy it can do harm to the baby, but I don't know if I believe that. All I know is that my doctor said if I quit smoking as soon as I find out I'm pregnant that my baby will have the same chances of being a healthy, normal child as one born to a woman that has never smoked...but I have to stop as soon as I find out. I will know about 2 weeks after I conceive because you know I am just waiting for AF and the first sign that she's not on her way I'll be testing.
I think we should set a date and try to quit.
Just thinking about quiting makes me nervous. I actually enjoy smoking eventhough I know the harm it can do. I feel like smoking is a big part of me for me some reason. No matter what happens, whether I'm happy, sad or mad I smoke. If I'm bored, I smoke. If I'm busy, I have to smoke. I guess I've lost my mind!
Yes, I am here often. I have a very laid back and most of the time boring job. I am in scool studying child psychology. At this time I am only taking night classes, so I have all day to do nothing. What a life! It was great the first couple of months, but it's gotten old. Talk to you later! :)

Child phsychologist huh? How interesting...I'm a private tutor in English as a Foreign Language and I have several kids who could definitely do with a bit of counselling!!! I've just got home from being battered around the head by a Barbie doll! While I'm silently fuming, the mother's looking on, shaking her head, smiling saying "Kids! Don't you just love 'em?!" Aaaaarrrgghhh!!!
Anyway, we're on a smoking forum here so let's stick to the point...when are we giving up? I'll leave it to you to say a date - I'm a bit nervous at the thought. I too, actually ENJOY my cigs and at the risk of sounding really shallow here, dont want to be left out of the 'in' gang of smokers. Pretty daft but deep down it's true.
I think I might get some more nicotine patches soon, they certainly help for the first few weeks. Anyway, better get on, speak to you soon....Nicky

I'm not sure about a date yet. Do you think you want to quit cold turkey or slowly. The time that I quit for a year I went cold turkey and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be...of course, I started back a year later, but I don't think how I quit had anything to do with it. Let me know. If you want to quit cold turkey I'll set a date...and don't worry, it won't be in the next week...it may not even be by the end of the month.

OK - I'm going to be really strong now and propose a date.
How about the 1st February? Start of a new month, sound good to you?!

It was my resolution, as well as to quit drinking. I started on Dec. 31st; and after being a smoker for 20 years, by the grace of God I haven't had any withdrawls. I think it has to be something that you really want to do for yourself, not anybody else. You CAN do it!
