Hi everyone, I'm new to this board, and i've tried to find posts that go into detail about what to expect from going cold turkey and I can't find one that's very candid. Anyway, i've taped off smoking for months now, and i've had anxiety problems for about that amount of time, so I'm not sure if that's related. Anyhow, I quit cold turkey since July 1st and i'm feeling a little worse than usual, but not completely horrible. I just want to know what to expect, because i'm scared it will exacerbate any underlying anxiety symptoms if they are caused by something other than quitting smoking. Thanks!

I just quit June 21 cold turkey, and I have occasional panic attacks. Typically I only have panic attacks in the middle of the night after waking up, but after quitting for a few days I had a panic attack every night before going to sleep. They have stopped now. I think it happened 4 or 5 nights in a row, which is not typical for me, I think it was just my body adjusting to the lack of poisons. Hang in there-it's worth it!

I suffered from anxiety before I quit smoking. I would be most anxious just as I would be drifting off to sleep and would wake up with a jolt and shortness of breath and pounding heart. This type of panic stayed with me even when I was on Paxil. Since I quit smoking this rarely ever happens to me and I am not even on paxil anymore. I still suffer from anxiety but not nearly to the extreme that I did before. I think it is due to the fact that I am not worrying about all the toxins that I was inhaling throughout the day.
