Hi new here, and I want to commend you all on your sucesses!
I am going for back surgery next week ( June 30th)
And my surgeon wants me to quit before then. The longest I have made it in the past was 6 weeks with nicorette, but that was ripping my fillings in my teeth out.
I will be 36 July 7th, and have been smoking since I was 17. AM two pack a dayer. I am sooo disappointed in myself for not having the strength to quit, even though in my heart I want it more than anything!!!!
Any and ALL tips will be greatly appreciated!
Lisa

Hi Lisa
Please don't be disappointed in yourself. Many, many people don't manage to give up on their first attempt. I gave up for 6 months then a stressful situation got me started again. I was mad at myself & it was a few years before I tried again. This time I've been a non-smoker for almost 5 years & hope to stay this way.
Think lots of positive thoughts about doing it again & go for it. Have you tried the patches? I used them for about 5 weeks & they helped me. I know they're not right for everyone but whatever you use e.g. dummy cigarettes, gum, tablets etc. you still need some will-power too.
i hope you manage to succeed this time. Sending you positive thoughts & best wishes.
Lidia :)

Quitting smoking is really painfull. The most I've managed is 2 months smoke free, but I always ended up smoking again :(
Anyways, I don't want my past experiences to disencourage you (btw, I'll be giving it up again the 24th of June) but how I see things is very simple:
You can either quit smoking now, or later in life; The question is not "if" (because most smokers end up quitting) but rather "will it be too late by the time I quit ?"
Anyways, I hope the best for you and stay strong thorugh it .... what EVER you do, after you've been smoke-free for some time, DO NOT light that single non-harming cigarrette up. If you do, its mathematical certainty you'll be smoking as before in no time.

It TOTALLY sucks to quit and it is NOT easy but, you have NO CHOICE-You must quit!!!!!!
You will most likly either die from something related to smoking or you will quit and get it over with.
JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!
YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Lisa,
I know you from the "cervie" board. I'm trying to quit, too - again. I don't know if I have to have surgery yet, but I have bronchitis again and my doc says if I don't give up the butts, it will become chronic.
Besides the gum, there is a lozenge. I tried the herbal route (I guess I'm not allowed to give the name). Although I gave it up, I think if you're committed it will work.
Everything I've read on the cervie board about smoking says that there is a 50% chance of the surgery to be unsuccessful if you smoke. For all the pain and misery of that ordeal, maybe that will motivate you. GOOD LUCK!

Yes, it IS sometimes too late, that's why a person should quit ASAP. I know people who had quit and ten years later got lung cancer. Not to discourage anyone, but we can do damage the longer we smoke.
