Hi ya'll,

Ive never posted to this board.I know it is titled smoking cessation, but thought since my questions pertained to smoking I would go ahead and post.

Ive smoked since I was 15,Iam now 30.I was wondering if any of you that smokes or have smoked ever blew Nicotene out of your nasal passages and was curious to know if smoking ever made you feel ill or sick.

Also have you had more Sinus infections/problems by smoking? These may be rhetorical/silly questions, but I was curious to know if I was the only one.

Thanks!
Jasmine

Not sure if you mean whether or not the blowing the smoke out of the nose makes you ill but I'm sure it can damage the nasal lining, and yes I've been getting heartburn from smoking too much :(

Smoking has been linked to an increase in sinus problems (I quit 1 1/2 weeks ago and I can already feel a great improvement in my sinuses!) and NHS direct (UK website that gives advice on health problems, they also have a hotline) recommends stopping smoking and using a humidifier/inhalator (one of those things that steam up and you can add vicks or olbas oil) as the only non-medication relief for sinus problems.

Mind you, it didn't stop me smoking for nearly 5 years while my sinus problems kept getting worse... http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Hi,

Sorry what I meant was when you blow your nose if you noticed Nicotine in the lining of your nasal cavity.

I may have to purchase a humidifier.I cant bare the thought right now to quit smoking!!!

I have terrible problems with my Sinuses.Always stuffy,dry...just cant think about not lighting up.Maybe one of these here days I'll toughen and do it.

Thanks

Yes, smoking can really mess up your sinuses. Let me clear something up however. Nicotine is the drug in tobacco that is addicting. But it is the tar in the smoke plus other ingredients added by the tobacco companies that can cause cancer. It is the tar not the nicotine that stains your teeth (and your lungs and sinuses) brown. And it is the tar that causes cancer.
I am quit over 1 1/2 years after smoking for 38 years. While I was a smoker I was bothered with stuffy sinuses. Also, every cold I contracted turned into bronchitis and cough that lasted for weeks. I am happy to report that, the very minute I quit smoking, I quit coughing. (Some people do cough early in their quit; it's normal either way) I haven't contracted a cold in the 18 months that I've been a non-smoker.

Quitting smoking is a struggle that is well worth it. Please consider it.

I get this phlem in my throat(deep down) so whenever I try to hack it up, I either end up throwing up or getting dry heaves (sp?). It all depended on if I just ate or I was drinking a beer. The hardest part will be to go into the bowling alley this fall and bowl and not smoke when there are smokers their. If you have any suggestions, please help me out, because I really need some support to quit this nasty habit.
