Wow, smoking sure has different effects on different people. I was always curious about smoking when I was a boy and tried it multiple times, never once enjoying it. I even inhaled a couple times and did not get any enjoyment from it. Then there's people like yourself who try cigarettes just a couple times and already feel addicted. My advice is to quit now because if your cravings are this strong after just a few cigarettes, they will get worse with every additional cigarette you smoke. My nieces are the same age as you and are hard-core two-pack-a-day addicts who absolute slaves to cigarettes. You definitely do not want to be like them.

Hi Hon,

Take it from all of us long-term smokers. This is something you want to stop NOW because it just gets harder to quit. I've also heard (but am not sure it's true) that if you start smoking as a teen, it is harder to quit later. It sounds like there may be some peer pressure going on - like your friends are after you to do it. If that's the case, I would be questioning their motives. Maybe they just don't realize how dangerous it is. Do you have a trusted adult you can talk with about this? Someone, maybe a friend of the family, teacher or minister/priest who won't give you the third degree about it?

Good luck!
Jeanine

just quoting jeanie here, it is so damn hard to quit, and I am only 23! It's not like I'm 40 or 50 or something like that. The longer you smoke, the harder it is to quit. and one day you WILL WANT TO QUIT - don't doubt that.

make the smart decision.

yeah buddy, its tough. i've smoked for 5 years and i'm only 21. i started young, and now i'm 21 and wanna quit, and its not easy. cuz you get into a routine. after i eat a meal, bam, need a smoke. after sex..which you shouldn't be having since your only 14, hahaha, but yeah, need a smoke. while driving (the worst) smoke a lot. but trust us, its honestly not worth it. i calculated it...i'm only 21, and i've smoked around 81,000 ciggarettes. yuk, i can't believe i would do that. i'm trying to cut back now, but be strong, your friends are there now when you wanna smoke, but they won't be there in 60 years to change your oxygen tank.

You know what's odd -
All of my boys from high school that smoked have since quit (including myself 4 days ago).

While all of the non-smokers when we were kids are smoking now.

Guess me and my friends all learned the hard way that smoking is:

A HORRIBLE habit

A HABIT and not a time-consumer, or thing to do, or boredom cure (which i always thought it was.

A completely UNJUSTIFIABLE form of self-abuse.

etc. etc.

This is just what I have figured out in last four days. I have been biking for a month now and I am just now able to go long distance. I guess I am lucky since I started a diet when i started biking, so i am not gaining any weight from quitting (which is such a dumb excuse for not quitting anyway).

Nonetheless, your smoking buddies WILL NOT BE THERE to lug your oxygen tanks around - true that.

Please listen to everyone else who has responded and QUIT NOW! Your craving is only in your head. Your not phisically addicted yet, and trust me, you don't want to be. I know what peer pressure is like, but no matter what your friends say or think, it's not worth it. I started smoking when I was 13, and I am only 21 now. I've tried to quit a few times now unsuccessfully. I'm smoking a pack and 1/2 a day and my health is suffering. I get so out of breath just doing little things. I regret starting so much now, and I guarantee if you start, you will regret it too. It is a completely pointless habit. It does nothing but bad things for/to you, and is a huge waste of money. I probably spend about $2000 a year on cigarettes, maybe more, and for all that money spent, I have nothing to show for it, except a bad habit and some damaged lungs.

hey,
you do not want to go down that road, trust me. it's the nastiest, most expensive, harmful habit you can take up. don't you play any sports or video games or something? you need smokeless friends dude. i smoked for 20 years(i am not an old woman, kid!) please don't start something that eventually you won't have any control over. it takes you and grips you and never wants to let you go. my advice to you is go to a bookstore and look in the medical books of people who have lung cancer due to smoking. puke city take my word.if that doesn't scare you, nothin' will.

You don't know how really really lucky you are. You've smoked -- what -- twice? You are definitely at a fork in the road and one of those roads leads to a potentially life-long addiction and constant worry that you've ruined your body. For you, since you're practically a non-smoker, the other road leads to a life with almost no increased risk (because of smoking) for the diseases caused or aggravated by smoking. I smoked for 38 years before quitting. Even though I have finally quit, I will continue to have elevated risks for smoking-related diseases for years to come.

I envy you. You have not ruined your body yet and are young enough to adopt a lifestyle that will result in a healthier you when you're as old as I am.

Make no mistake, nicotine is a seductive drug and as you've found out, it doesn't take long for your body to learn to love it. And it's harder than h*** to train your body to do without it!

At your age i think refocusing your thoughts to something else will make that "need" go away cuz you aren't physically addicted yet. Take it from me you don't want to continue to smoke - I'm 30 & been at it for 15 years. I look a lot older than i am & beginning to have health problems. Don't for a minute think you can just do this for now & just quit when you get older....it's so incredibly difficult. Refocus your thoughts - chew gum, watch tv, shoot hoops - anything to get your mind off of it. Please do it for all of us that have posted that didn't make the right choice that you are now faced with.
