Hello all, well I went in to see the doctor for some episodes of light headedness I was having, during the testing process the doctor discovered that I have COPD.Also during the testing process the doctor discovered that I have angina which is dealing with the heart for those of you might not know what angina is.I am going to see the cardiologist on tuesday of next week to see how sever my angina is.I am only 33 years old and have a family.I never in a million years thought that going in to see my doctor about light headedness would reveal that I have 2 life treatening diseases.I understand the seriousness of these diseases but cigs are so controling.I will keep trying to kick cigs until I make it and I will,KEEP TRYING is the key.

Quitting isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It wasn't a picnic, but - after the withdrawal part was over, a whole new world opened up for me and I'm finding out how much I missed all the years I smoked.
I also have COPD - developed it in my early - mid 30s - it can be brought to very slow crawl if you quit NOW - if you don't quit now you can end up like me - I went on smoking and had cancer at the age of 38. LUNG CANCER. They took out part of my lung.
I always thought lung cancer was an old age thing. I mean if you quit before 40, 50 , 60 , 70, you'd be okay. Somebody somewhere told me - recently - it was rare for anyone under 40 to get lung cancer -
I've met MANY in their 30s and 40s with lung cancer the past couple years . Most have been women. Most do not make it.
I'm very serious. I was nursing my baby when it was discovered I had lung cancer. That ended the nursing! It ended a lot of things. Fortunately, I am still alive.
The word needs to be gotten out that there are lots of people who die in their 30s from lung cancer. I never knew - until I got it myself.
The 5 year survival rate - of lung cancer - is something like 14%.
Quitting smoking - is not a matter of TRYING - you DO it but you have to WANT to - you have to WANT to live - without the information that your life is at stake - it is hard to realize how much you WILL want to live - many find out too late. Lung cancer has no symptoms other than bronchitis sometimes - until it is very late, beyond treatment doing any good.

How have you fared with your atempt to quit smoking? Has your angina or lightheadedness gotten any better? I have quit for 50 days but still have some lightheadedness going on, though my EKG came back fine and a ear nose throat specialist could find nothing wong with my inner ear. I don't wat to go bak to the cigs,I think they cause too many problems as you get older.

Hi, Wildfire. I just read your post, and I'm sorry you have these two medical conditions. It is crucial you quit smoking immediately. I have emphysema myself; plus "diffuse lung nodules" so I know how important it is to stop smoking; get regular exercise; find a good support group, etc...Good luck to you; may God bless you. Deb

Hi, Bookmiser. I'm sorry I don't know anything about your lung nodules. I barely know what mine mean, lol! Have you looked it up on your search engine? That would be your best bet. And my advice: don't worry until you know for sure its something to worry about. Who really knows what will eventually kill us? It could be a million different things, right? Worrying won't change the outcome! Good luck to you....Deb

momof4precioushearts,I am so sorry to hear about your lung cancer.I hope this reply finds you in better health and life is getting better for you.I lost my father-in-law 3yrs ago to lung cancer. We only had 3 weeks with him after finding out about it.I know I know, why didn't I quit then? just being a bone head I guess. My mother-in-law wasn't in good health herself so my family and I moved in with them so we could help take care of him.He died with his family surrounding him and he left this world peacefully. My 11/14yr old sons were next to him when he took his last breath which was very hard for me to let them see,Not knowing how watching their grand fathers death would affect them. They handled it like little troppers and did better than I thought they would.I DO NOT WANT my kids to go thruogh that with me but not only that I want to see them grow up,get married and have kids of their own.I have joined a support group that deb47 mentioned in her post,I have a quit day of 9/31/03,I soon will be a non smoker :)My families prayers are with you and yours.

lavoiecable,Congrats on your 50 days with out the cancer sticks.I have not yet quit smoking but I have joined a support group and I have made a quit day as of 9/31/03.I am so happy to hear your inner ear is ok.I am still having my episodes of light headedness and faint spells,as of right now I am only taking a beta blocker for my angina.I have gone and taken the tread mill stress test and a echo,I was scheduled to see the doctor today to find out my results but he had to cancel due to an emergency, the next available date to see him was oct.14 so I have to wait another 2 weeks to know what exactly is wrong with me and what I need to do about it GRRRR.

Dear Mom of 4; I will say a prayer for you. For some reason, I skipped over where you had said you now have lung cancer. I'm so very sorry to hear that. My best advice I can give to you is to put all your faith/trust in the Lord Jesus; and he'll see you through this and any other ordeal life might throw your way. Good luck to you both; and God bless you both! Deb
