I want to quit smoking and really need to quit because of some lung problems. I read on the internet about the nicotine cigarettes Bravo and the Quest cigarettes and the reduction method. Has anyone tried these. I'm thinking of trying one to help quit because I like to have something in my hand and mouth?

i don't know about those. I was a merit ultima smoker up until two days ago (that's why i'm here) and i am pretty sure that ultima is lower than any of the quest levels. Don't kid yourself, these are still cigarettes. I am not about to give advice though as I am only two days smoke free.

good luck

FYI, Quest cigarettes have been shown in a limited study to aid in smoking cessation (search news). Larger studies are coming, so keep an eye out. I think they can help, but to each his own.

If you want to quit smoking, you have to quit smoking.

I recommend NRT of some kind for you. The various forms of NRT such as patch, gum, inhaler and lozenge have been shown in studies to increase the quitter's chances of staying quit. These also have the advantage of serving to indulge your hand-to-mouth habit, esp. gum, lozenge, and inhaler, while you deal with adapting to life as a non-smoker.

The Bravo and Quest products do not have the body of research behind them that the above forms of NRT have.

I agree that a patch is a nice place to start. But lets face it, it doesnt work most of the time. I believe, and I think it is time to admit, that each individual may need a different way to quit.

Personally, I like the idea of Quest - because it lets the habit continue while lowering the nicotine concentration in the body. The problem of nicotine and smoking addiction is being attacked from another angle, and IT MAY WORK FOR PEOPLE. It may work for people who can't quit using other methods. I am anxious to see larger studies, because I think they are on to something.

The whole air of "all smoking is evil" seems to have gone a little too far. To discount this theory for quitting because it involves smoking is unscientific at best.

IMHO
