Hey Sam I Am I was wondering if you finally got the neck brace off? I've been away for awhile went to Florida to visit my Parents and my Grandpa.
What a way to spend my vacation, 2 weeks on the beach in Florida with a hard neck collar! Hot! Hot! Hot!
Have you decided how you are going to destroy your brace yet? Are you going to shoot it, burn it,or use it as a hood ornament?
Let me know! ~KIM

Good morning Kim. Welcome back from Florida! When does your brace come off? It must have been tough in the hot sun with your brace - I hope you still had an enjoyable time.
My brace came off on Friday Jun 14th. My buddies and I had quite the party! I think we set a new record for our beer can pyramid.
We decided late in the night to run over the brace with my truck. We each took turns running it over and probably ran it over a dozen times. It was pretty flattened and crunched by the time we were done. It is now hanging in my garage next to my license plate collection - I had to use some duct tape to piece it back together.
I hope your brace comes off soon!

Hey Glad to see you respond back. Thought now that you have your brace off you might forget about us not so lucky people! Your replies back always bring a smile to my face! Keep them coming!
Beer can pyramid, Cool! Sounds like you had a great time celebrating!! Can wait for the day! So you decided to run the sucker over, and over, and over instead of dragging it home. Great job! I still cant decide on what to do with mine. Any ideas?
I can just imagine it all taped up and nailed to the wall! Funny! Very funny! So, How does it feel to have it off. I wonder what its going to feel like to finally move my neck again. Are you doing any kind of physical therapy to build back up your neck muscles? Are you back to work yet?
I drove for the first time yesterday. I couldn't take it anymore. I feel like a caged animal. Did ok just a short trip to the drug store.
Glad to hear that you doing great and hope to hear from you again. Have a good one http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif ~~ KIM

Hi Kim. I hope to continue to visit the board for some time. It was very helpful and encouraging to read the posts of others before my surgery and during my recovery. Hopefully, some of our posts will keep others positive. I was going to say keep their heads up - but the brace takes care of that! :D
I have some neck exercises to do on my own. My neck still feels weak but it is improving. I am back to work but only on a limited basis.
http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif Glad to hear you started driving. Being cooped up was the worst!
As for your brace, it depends on if you ever want to see it again. If you never want to see it again, I would suggest tying it to a 10 pound block (let someone else lift it) and throwing it off a bridge into a lake. Just watch out for any bass fishing boats below!
I'm glad I crushed mine but didn't throw it away. Maybe you could chop it into pieces and keep it in a jar. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/idea.gif
Have fun but be careful on the road again!

Sorry Sam, I forgot to answer one of your questions. I don't see my Dr. until July 25. So I will have to wear the collar until then. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks! Wow! that's hard to believe! So I'm half way there. 4 more weeks to go!
Like I said your messages keep me smiling! They help to keep my nugget up! So keep them coming.
I like your ideas on how to destroy my neck brace. But with my luck I would hit a bass boat below or after I tossed the sucker I would turn around to see the police handing me a fine for littering! So I'm going to pass on that one.
Now chopping it up into pieces might be one I would consider. I love to swing an ax! I do have to chop some wood for the bonfire so I might as well kill two birds with one stone! Chop it-then toss it on the fire! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/blob_fire.gif
I was out driving again today. First trip was to the drug store and today I took the kids to the dentist. Somebody stop me I'm out of control!! :round:
Have a good one!!~~KIM

Hi Kim, Congratulations on reaching 4 weeks! Your comment about your "nugget" made me laugh and smile. I haven't heard anyone refer to their head as a nugget since my grandfather years ago. Maybe instead of a neck brace they should refer to these contraptions as a "nugget holder" or a "nugget supporter" http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/cool.gif
Your idea of chopping up the brace and then tossing the pieces on the fire sounds great! You could make a whole party around that. Toss another piece on the fire every time someone chugs a beer! I couldn't imagine swinging an ax yet but it sounds like you're tough enough to handle it now! I hope your next 4 weeks fly by. :)
I'm off for a half day of work - hope you can get out and about again today! Sam

Thanks again for the laugh Sam. Laughing helps a lot. You have no idea how much you help me!
Yes, I did get out again today. Drove to a Dr. appt. Whoohoo!! I also started walking. While I was in Florida I stared walking to the beach, down the beach and back home. It was very peaceful and really seemed to help me get through the long day with the "nugget supporter" and all!
So now that I'm home I continued on with walking. I'm up to about 3-4 miles and it feels great to move again!! Its not soccer but its something! And if I want to keep up with the others I have to keep moving!
How about you? Do you enjoy moving? Like running, walking, biking, hiking....? How do you go back to a half a days work on a construction site? Do the other guys give you a hard time about that?
Now about your neck. Are you doing physical therapy at a hospital or are you on your own at home? Did you notice if you lost any muscle tone? ( In your neck!) Do you still have to sleep with the collar on?
Hope your having a great day! ~~KIM

Kim,
Soccer? Isn't that the game where the score is usually 1-0 after 3 hours? No hands - what kind of game is that? :p Actually, that's great that you enjoy a sport. When can you play again? I love football and can't wait to rejoin the Sunday morning touch football league I was in. The season should begin again in October. I should be clear to play by the end of October! I also enjoy biking. It always seems too hot here to run after work or in the evening.
I am on light duty for half days at the construction sites. My unofficial temporary position is gopher. You know - go for this, go for that. :D
The physical therapy is all on my own at home. My shoulders, arms and neck are definitely weaker than before the surgery although to be rid of the pain is the ultimate! Are you supposed to have therapy after the nugget supporter comes off? I destroyed my brace and it is nailed to the wall but I didn't have to wear the collar at night. I do still wake up in the middle of the night with stiffness.
Congratulations - you are now past the half way mark wearing you brace http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif

Stiffness in the morning? Not touching that one http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif
I have to wait at least 6 months to play soccer again. As soon as the nugget supporter comes off I can dribble the ball around and practice with some of my teammates that I know wont knock me down. But I wont be able to play competitively for 6 months. Can we say that sucks!!
Touch football league, that sounds fun. I played a lot growing up and really enjoy a good game of football. Is it a coed league? My soccer league is coed.
Have you in the past ever turn you neck to far. I did yesterday while taking a shower and wonder if I might of did some damage! It really didn't hurt but I did hear it crack. Was wondering if you did the same but still was able to get the brace off in such a short time. If I hear That I have to wear this @##$54# thing a day longer then 8 weeks I am going to scream!!!
Well I'll let you go for now. "Gopher" a beer and have a good one!! ~~KIM

Hi Kim,
I am really sorry about the "waking up with stiffness" comment. I really was referring to my neck - I hope you weren't offended. I have to admit that I laughed my head off when I reread my message after you pointed that out http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif
The football league is not coed. I couldn't imagine women on the field with some of the men I play with. "Touch" football would take on a whole new meaning. It does get too rough out there for women also. That's a bummer to wait for 6 months to play again. At least with my football, most of my recovery is during the summer off-season.
I have had some cracking in my neck when I moved it side to side but it never seemed extreme or painful. I guess any sound from the neck after our surgeries would be worrisome. Have you felt any pain since you heard the crack? I think with all the money our doctors have earned from us, you should be able to call anytime with a question. Is the doctor or their staff responsive?
I like your idea and I will "Gopher" a beer (maybe more than one). I will offer a toast to you hoping for not one day longer than 8 weeks in a brace. :D

Oh... please! I thought it was very funny! Was not offended at all, now I feel kind of bad for reading it the way I did. But hey that's the way my mind works! So apology excepted but were all adults here so don't give it a second thought!
Ohhhh......To rough for women?? Its touch football! How rough can It be? Just kiddin. Soccer can get a little rough especially when you play with some out of control players.
I was really hurt in the last game I played in from a player like that. I was side swiped by a player and fell and hit my head. When I went to get up I was temporally paralyzed in my right arm and across my back was burning. It was then when I realized I should wait for the results of my MRI. I found out a few days later that I need surgery. NO choice it was that bad! Had it done and here I sit!
Feeling a lot better today. Yesterday was a bad day with my Nugget Supporter and the muscles in my neck. But was up and out on my walk this morning and having a better day! Hey, Today is my birthday!! I better have a great day! No I will have a GREAT DAY!
Your right the doctors do make enough money from are surgeries and should be on our beckon call! Ohhhh... I wonder if they would make house calls?? I know that is something I would respond well to!
Thanks for the toast last night!! Hope you have a good one!~~KIM

Happy Birthday Kim http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/birthday.gif I know it is not proper to ask a woman her age so I won't. I hope you had a good one. I bet your birthday wish was never to have to wear the #*$&*%^)# brace again. Is there cake crumbs and icing all over the brace?
Unfortunately, I think I overdid it this weekend. My buddy has a cabin that we go to every once in a while and we were there to fish, drink and play cards. The fishing was great but the lake was wavy and I think riding in a boat and casting strained my neck. I didn't feel too bad until last night when the muscles all seemed to stiffen up at once. Last night I could barely turn my head a few inches to each side. This morning is a little better and luckily I'm off work today. I've been taking Tylenol like M&M's. I guess the message is to take it easy after the brace is off. :nono: It didn't help that I lost my but playing poker both Friday and Saturday nights. My only salvation was that I caught the biggest bass over the weekend!
I showed our messages to my buddies at the cabin. They thought I sounded like an idiot but they all thought you sounded pretty cool and had a great attitude about your surgery and especially the brace. They voted 3-1 to chop it up and burn it. I had the other vote that was to drop it into the lake from a bridge. I know the enjoyment wouldn't be as long but I like the idea of knowing the brace is sitting at the bottom of a lake.
Hope your neck is feeling better every day! Sam

Hey Sam,
Thanks for the birthday wish. I'm not ashamed to say that I am 28 (35) years young. You know what they say Its not how old you feel but whose feeling you that maters! ;) No cake in the "Nugget Supporter" but I did spill a drink or two. Didn't have time to make a McDonalds run for more straws!!
I had a horrible weekend http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif I fell twice, once down the stairs. I was sitting on them and just slipped all the way down??? Then the next day I twisted my ankle stepping on a shoe that was left on the steps going into my house. Hit that and fell into the door frame!! I think I survived without to much damage but it sure was scary. I too was popping my Soma like they were M&M's.
Sounds like you had fun $#&^@!* up your neck!! Congratulation on the catch of the day! There is nothing like being able to brag about having the biggest bASS! :D
An idiot, huh? Ouch! Sounds like you and your "Buddies" have a great relationship. Keep your messages coming because I look forward to them. They brighten my day. Besides I think they're jealous because they're not the one waking up with stiffness in the morning!! Sorry, bad joke!
Yesss!! I'm down to 24 days before my Dr. Appointment!! I cant wait. I just hope its news I can handle.
Have a good one and tell your buddies I said Hey!!~~KIM

Happy 4th of July! Were you able to enjoy any fireworks - maybe laying on your back propped up with a pillow so you could look into the sky? My buddies and I had our annual 4th of July shooting contest and I amazingly won this year http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif They all believe the surgery keeps my neck and aim straighter than ever. I don't recommend the surgery to anyone just to improve their shooting.
I noticed that you edited your last message three times. You didn't change your age three times did you? :D
Your falls sounded pretty scary. I hope your neck is feeling fine - if you have any concern - call your doctor! I think as long as you wear the brace, your neck is well protected. There were times when I slammed my neck pretty good in the brace and no damage was done.
Keep up your great attitude and smile - only 20 more days until your appointment (and hopefully freedom from the nugget supporter) :round:
Have a fun weekend - I'm off to my friends ranch for the weekend - it should be a wild one! Sam

Good Morning Sam,
Yes, I did have an enjoyable 4th of July. I sat and watched our neighborhood fireworks show with my 4 kids. They clapped at every one that went up and burst high in the sky and I enjoyed all the misfired ones that shot out to the side!! :D It was very fun watching their reactions. They had a good time.
Congrats! Shooting contest? What was involved? What kind of gun? I shot a rifle as a kid and a hand gun as a Adult ( I use that word loosely) I cant imagine how your neck felt afterwards with the kick back from a rifle. OUCH ! Ok....So, let me paint a picture here. You drive a truck, shoot a gun and have a big bASS! Yummy! :p
Ok! Yes I did change my age on my last post. But believe it or not I post myself a year younger 34 and had to change it to 35! Yuck! 35 I cant believe I'm that old!! And the other to were spelling errors.
My "great attitude" has been hard to keep! I haven't had the best week of my life that's for sure! In fact it has been the worst! I haven't smiled in a long time and I am really looking forward to reading a post from you! I cant wait to hear about your wild time on the ranch with your buddies http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif How many close friends do you have? Good friends are hard to come by so cherish every one of them. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/love1.gif
Well have a great day! Life is to short to waste even one of them! I'm off to the pool. My kids take swimming lessons.
16 more days!! I hope! Have a good one and tell your Buddies I said Hey! ~~KIM

Hi Kim,
Glad to hear you were able to enjoy the fireworks with your kids. I believe there are only twelve more days until your appointment :D I hope for you that the brace comes off then. It seems from this board that 8 weeks is common for the brace to come off. I'm not sure why my brace came off after 5 weeks. Maybe he thought my bones were pretty strong? It makes me wonder about my doctor, although my neck is feeling great!
Yes, yes, I drive a truck, shoot a gun, and CAUGHT the biggest BASS! You sound very impressed :p. At least I'm only 32 (I'll edit that later to 29)!
I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad week, I know how those can be. Keep smiling and laughing, it always seems to help. Smile at someone and they usually smile back, although I always felt people were smiling at me because of the brace. It was a smile anyways! Your idea for a joke of the day was great. I hope others begin to post.
My weekend on the ranch was wild. A lot of drinking, dancing and cow-tipping. I refrained from the cow-tipping because of my neck. That would have been a very embarassing way to reinjure my neck. I know it doesn't sound like much fun, but after a bunch of beer on a ranch, it's a blast. Have you ever tried it? If you haven't, don't do it with your neck :nono: Do you enjoy country line dancing?
12 more days! Keep up your amazing attitude!

Hello Sam,
I'm on the home stretch now!! Down to 9 days!! Lets hope for the best!
I had a couple of bad days with my neck muscles. I'm trying to keep my nugget up but I don't know if I can make it any longer! I also started to notice that my right arm will start to shake on its own and I hope this is normal. Kind of weird when it happens. I did do a lot of reaching above my head so maybe I over used my muscles in my arm. How pathetic is that!!
Loved your jokes you posted. Thanks for joining in. I was really hoping that topic would take off and I would get lots of post but I was wrong. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif Laughing gets me through a lot and I guess I thought it would do the same for others. Oh well.. I'll keep posting anyway!
COW-TIPPING?? Ok...I don't even want to hear what you did with the sheep!! Nope, I've never tried cow-tipping but with a few beers... I'm sure I would be game. Sounds like you and your friends are a lot of fun.
Country line dancing? I've tried it once a long time ago. I do enjoy Country Music and I do enjoy dancing. So I'm sure I would have a Great time! Although, I wouldn't say I'm the best dancer out there. It might take me a while to learn the dance but I don't care I dance to have a good time! How about you? Do you like to dance? Any blue ribbons in line dancing?
Hey, Have you been back on your bike yet? That is one thing I want to start doing when I get this collar off. I was wondering how long I would have to wait. I thought that would be a great way to build up endurance without the jarring on the neck that running can cause. My goal is to keep fit so that when I am aloud to play soccer again I can jump back in and hope no one ever noticed that I was even gone! ;)
Hope to here from you again. I'm trying to keep up my amazing attitude! But it gets harder every day. Thanks for all your help!!! You Have a Good One!! Your Friend!~~KIM

Hi Kim,
Just a few more days until your doctor's appointment! I'll be thinking of you and hoping for the best :D Maybe a bottle of scotch for your doctor would help. NO MORE BRACE! NO MORE BRACE! NO MORE BRACE!
Are you still having problems with your right arm? I know the muscles weaken quickly without much use. It sounds like with your level of activity, the muscles should tone up quickly. I hope I don't sound motherly but let your doctor know about your arm!
Sheep!? Your ways of celebrating in Ohio must be a lot different than in Texas (although I have heard stories that if shared would probably get me banned from this board). If you're ever in Texas let me know and I'll teach you the art of cow-tipping. The only warning is to make sure you are on the right side of the cow when it tips!
I do enjoy country line dancing but that is pretty much it and no I don't have any blue ribbons. I usually dance best when I've had a few - at least I think that's when I dance best. I have been biking again. It feels great to be active - I'm sure you will be soon!
Keep your amazing attitude flowing - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday-Neck Liberation Day http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif
PS I noticed your last message was edited but I did not see anything about your age. Possibly you edited your sheep story?!!!

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday....That sound to good to be true!! I have been in this collar way to long and I am ready to be Neck Liberated!! If I'm told I have to wear this this a day longer I'm the one who will need the scotch!!
Thanks for your concerns about my arm. I haven't had the same problem since that day. So I hope it was because I did a lot of reaching above my head and just over did it. I need to ask for more help. I tend to do thing for myself because I hate to bother people.
Didn't your mother teach you NOT to play with your food! (bad joke) The "Art" of cow-tipping? LOL!! If I ever return to Texas I might take you up on that! I bet there's never a dull moment when you and your buddies are together! And the same goes to you...If your ever in Ohio let me know and I'll teach you how to party with sheep! Their warm and woolly and much cuter then cows! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/love1.gif
And your right I did edit a sheep story!! :D Hey... I still need help from this message board. I cant get kicked out now. But when its time to say good-bye to all these nice people it would be fun to go with a bang!
Loved your "Joke of the day" post. Thanks for helping to keep that going! I was thinking of posting this one what do you think?
How do you get five hundred cows in a barn?
Put up a "Bingo" sign.
Yeah...your right I better not post that one. :nono:
Well, I'm going to pop a Soma and take my amazing attitude to bed! You have a good one!! And remember.. don't squat with your spurs on!!? ~~KIM

Hi Kim,
Two days left! I thought the day would never come for me and I only had to wear the brace for five weeks. I couldn't imagine another three weeks like you have had. There seems to be a wide variation among the people on this board and the length of time in the brace. I'm sure the degree of surgery/injury has a big impact. I find it difficult to believe some of the experiences. Congratulations - you are almost there!
I think after your done with your neurosurgeon you may need to see another doctor - one who specializes in sheep disorders!!! :p I suppose you could argue that a sheep is a lot cuter than a cow but I'll never admit to it. I couldn't imagine the razzing from my buddies if they saw our last couple posts! When were you in Texas and where? If you do return, I'll be sure to warn the sheep farmers in the area.
Your Bingo joke was great. I will definitely share that one with my buddies. "Don't squat with your spurs on" - now that is excellent advice my friend! Also, never climb into your waterbed with your spurs on!
I hope you post as soon as you can on Thursday. I am looking forward to reading about your good news! TWO MORE DAYS! NO MORE BRACE! TWO MORE DAYS! NO MORE BRACE!
Have you planned the party yet and decided what to do with your brace? Sam :)

Hello Sam I AM,
From the time I send this it will be 24.5 hrs. before my Dr. appt.! But hey whose counting!! Me!, Me!, Me!
There is a huge variation in the way a Doctor chooses to practice. Mostly in the time spent in the collar. Although I have read where some aren't even in a collar at all. Unbelievable!! I don't know if I would trust that advice from a Doctor. Hey it sounds great! The last thing I wanted to here was I had to wear this collar at all but I do know that my neck need to heal and plate or no plate the brace really helps!
Sheeping disorder! :D Very clever! The sad part is that is one of my finer qualities!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dizzy.gif Sheep are clearly cuter but cows are bigger so being from Texas I can see why you prefer cows!
Anyway, I was in Dallas Texas about 4 years ago. I spent 4 days watching my husband in a softball tournament. Woohoo!! I actually had a nice time. Got to sit on the "grassy knoll" and visit the museum there in the warehouse. Sad but very interesting.
Ok another joke for the message board....
Driving Test
An Texan was taking his driving test and the instructor says "Can you make a U-Turn".
The Texan replies, "make her turn, I could make her eyes water"......ok ..maybe not!
I'll post as soon as I get home on Thursday. I pray that it will be great news. I'm trying to keep a smile on my face but I'm afraid lately that I have been faking it. Had a couple of ideas for the brace but those have changed to and I'm not sure what I will do now.~~KIM

Good Morning Sam,
Well,I went to the Doctors yesterday and the news was Horrible!! He told me I have to wear this @#$*&^% collar for 8 more weeks! (Check out my post on the board for all the details of my visit.)
Can you believe this! I was shocked. I was prepared to hear that I might have to wear it another week or two but not 8 more! I cant do it!! It was hard keeping a positive attitude through the first 8 weeks but what helped was that I thought I was almost done. Now I find out I'm only half way there and I don't think I can make it! I HATE THIS COLLAR!!!
Ok, lets try to look on the positive side.
1. I did get to see my x-ray. The vertebrae are almost completely fused! That's good! I was worried about that because I am known for always over doing it when I'm suppose to be taking it easy.
2. Ok!! That was a huge list!
Somebody put me out of my misery! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/hammer.gif
Well I was hoping to have better news for you. Hope to hear from you soon!! You always bring a smile to my face! Have a good one!~~KIM

Hi Kim,
I haven't checked the board for a while and I could not believe your bad news! NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!! Is that doctor crazy?
I can only guess that he knows best but it must be so frustrating for you. I'd like to see him wear that $*#*&% collar for one week let alone sixteen!
I hope your spirit is still high and as strong as ever. Try your best to follow the doctors orders and be extra careful if you begin to stray from the collar. ;)
I'll try to check in more often but I've been at a construction site out of town! Too bad you don't live closer - I'd buy you a tall cool one. For now, I will definitely tell my buddies about your news and we will toast to you and your health!

Sam, Your Back!!
I thought you ditched me right in my time of need!!! Glad to see your back! Sorry to hear your working so hard!
Is that doctor crazy?? No, the mans NUTS, grab him!! Sorry! Trying to keep my humor, as bad as it is!!
I was feeling down the day of the appointment but I trying to pick myself back up. Its funny that you had said be careful if you begin to stray. You know me way too well!! :D I have to admit I have been taking the collar off here and there just to give myself a break. I will sit out on the deck and read a book, or as I type this message. It feels great to have it off. I'm being careful!
How has your neck been? Are you back to full time work? Did you wear a soft collar after your hard collar? I received a letter from my doctor yesterday and it was so vague! All it said was he would like to see me in 4 months that is 2 months after I take the hard collar off. Wow! Great doctor orders. No telling me what to do. Do I just stop wearing the collar? Do I wear a soft collar? Nothing!!
He couldn't understand why I wanted out of this collar so bad. I asked him if ever wore one for any length of time? He claimed he did but I'm sure it wasn't for even an hour!! He acted like I was one of the rare ones who hated wearing the collar! Who wouldn't want out of this thing!! What FREAK likes wearing a collar. Ok, Priest come to mind but that's another message board!
Too bad you do live so far away! A tall cool one is exactly what I need! Although the tiny little hard liquor ones are quicker!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif Tell your Buddies I said Hey! And like always have a good one!! ~~KIM Missed Ya! Keep in touch!!

Kim, this is Nurse Nanner adding my voice of caution to that of Dr. Sam. Please be careful with yourself.
While I *certainly* understand your frustration at this additional collar time, might I suggest you consider getting a soft collar? Can you get one without a script? I don't know, but I would think it is possible. I found this rather kinky web site for "fans" of neck braces, and it seems you can get the soft ones readily. NO, I am not going to give out the URL, but I bet a lot of us have found it just searching for info on our conditions. :)
I just know for myself that going cold turkey to collarless after 6 weeks or so in the hard collar would have been tough. Even with the soft collar on there is some muscle ache, but it would be way worse with no support at all.
If you feel you must have some release, getting a soft collar at least gives you an intermediate step. Mind you, I am not advising you to go against doctor's orders, but just don't push too far too fast. We don't want to see you backslide after all this punishment!

Nanner,
Thanks for the great advice. I do plan on using the soft collar when I decide to wean myself out of the hard one. I have been wearing it when I take a break here and there and it does help. It has been 9 weeks and 4 days. I am going to try and reach 11 weeks. That's only ten more days!
How are things going with you? How was the first night sleeping in the soft collar? Are you still keeping you head stiff? If not how does it feel to move it again?
Thanks again for your help!! Have a good one!~~KIM

Kim,
Thanks for asking how things are going here. I just got back from running some errands in the car-driving! It's a bit hard to turn the head yet, but I just remind myself to take it slow.
I've been sleeping better with the soft collar. I've even managed to get in a few hours sleeping on my side, which I much prefer to this sleeping on the back with no pillow that I've had to do since surgery.
The back of my neck still hurts some, and I wonder how long that usually hangs on. I've also noticed that my right arm sure lets me know if I overdo it! I still haven't cut back from the two Lortab a day, though I might try going without the night time dose and see how that works.
I am looking forward to Aug. 20, when I should be relieved of the soft collar. Just in time for a long weekend in Stratford, Ontario! My new motto is, "Have surgery, will travel"!

Nanner,
Like your new motto! And girl you have been on the move. Good for you! Life is too short! Seize the moment!
Were you told the pain in the back of your neck was normal? Do you think its related to your bones or muscles? I've noticed when I take a break and wear my soft collar for awhile I start to get a pain in the back of my neck.
How is your throat doing? I am still having problems with mine. I feel like I have a little pocket in my throat. I get water stuck in it and I still choke a lot. I did talk to my doctor about that and he said to still give it time. Did you throat get worse now that your in the soft collar? I have more problems with it when I'm in the soft collar. Don't know why?
Good luck on the 20th.! And have a good one in Ontario!~~KIM

Kim, sorry to hear your throat is still acting up. Mine was fine when I switched to the soft collar. It seemed that after about 3.5 weeks I quit with the gagging on everything, and it hasn't reappeared.
You mention neck soreness. See my new post about that, and I'm calling the doc today. I want to see what he says about the headaches and neck pain. Almost hate to call as I just want the collars done with, but I know I really do need to let them know what's up.

Good evening Nanner and Kim,
I too had neck pain for the first several weeks after removing the brace. I never used the soft collar but that sounds like a good idea to wean yourself off of the hard collar.
Most evenings when my neck was sore I gently massaged the area with a gel pack I keep in the freezer. (A cold can of beer will work if the gel pack is not available) :) I don't know if it is doctor recommended but it seemed to relax my muscles and help me get to sleeeeeppp zzzzzzzzzz!
Although our bodies all act and heal differently, take solace in knowing that most of us that are farther along in the process went through the discomforts you are experiencing. Try to compare how you feel today with how you were one or two weeks ago.
It sounds like you are both extremely anxious to resume your physical activities again. I am just as anxious to join my football league. Fishing just doesn't get my juices flowing. I hope to add a little excitement by entering a local bass fishing tournament this weekend.
Give the gel pack a try. If that doesn't work there is always liquid relief.
Hoping for the best for both of you http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif

Sam I Am,
Your right, I do find solace in knowing others have experienced the same burning pain as I, as sad as that sounds. Especially with me because I have not been told I can take the collar off yet and have been doing it slowly on my own. I've decided I was going to remove it more and more throughout the day. I will wear it when I drive and when I sleep until the end of the 4 months.
Your right again. I am very anxious to resume my physical activities. Its killing me to sit and watch the world go by. I did put on my soccer cleats yesterday and kicked the ball around the backyard! Felt great! Only problem I had was I kept wanting to run up to the ball and kick it. Habit! I'm sure I will be back out there again today!
I hope you rejoin your touch football league! I say "life is too short!" If it makes your juices flow go for it! Good luck on your fishing tournament. May the best bASS win.
Have a good one!~~KIM

Sam I Am?
One too many of your gel pack/liquid relief's? http://www.usresolve.org/smileys/drink.gif What happened to you Little Buddy?
You left me hanging on the fishing tournament! http://www.usresolve.org/smileys/fish.gif How did it go? Do you have the largest or nicest bASS? :D
Things have been pretty good here. Spend most of my day in the soft collar and I'm feeling fine. I upped my activities. I kick a soccer ball ( I know how much you love this sport) around for about and hour each day and still take my 1 to 1.5 hour walk. I feel my best when I do these things!!
Oh well... I hope to here from you! Have a good one!!~~KIM

Hi Kim,
How have you been? I can't believe how long it has been since my last post. Time to fess up - I got my bASS kicked in the fishing tournament. Out of 50 contestants I finished 48th! Oh well, it was a lot of fun and I'm sure I'll enter another one in the future.
I'm starting to count the days until I can return to unrestricted activity. I've been told that I am clear at the end of October. I'll miss about half of the football season. I'm sure you can't wait to return to soccer (unless you decided to play a real sport :D ).
Do you still have about two weeks left in the collar? I really think a bottle of scotch for the doctor might persuade him! What have you decided to do with your collar? Have you planned a party to celebrate it's demise? I really enjoy seeing my nugget supporter hanging on my garage wall. It's a nice reminder to what I went through and succeeded in going through.
Hope your neck feels great!

Sam,
Man, I thought you were Long Time Gone!! (Hey a little Dixie Chicks!) Missed ya! Glad to have ya back. But if I placed 48 out of 50 in a bASS fishing contest I wouldn't show my face for awhile either!! :D
I have one week left in my collar. Wink-Wink! I have been taking the collar off during the day. I still wear it to bed. I go and see my doctor this Thursday.
I called to make my 6 month appointment in Nov. and asked about what I could do when my collar come off next week. I wanted to know if I could start running, biking, dribble around a soccer ball, bowling, (now there's a sport!) or jet skiing? He called back and said he would like to x-ray me before he clears me of any of these activities. I did not confess to him that I have been doing most of these things already. Haven't been bowling yet. I'm saving that for the welcome back to life celebration!! Hey, I'm Polish what other way is there to celebrate??
YES! I cant wait to return to soccer. I did start practicing with my team. I try to take it pretty easy and they do a great job playing off me. :D I love playing again. We had our first game last Sunday. The other team was short on players. I had my soccer equipment in the car and I almost went in to play. Good thing I didn't because things got a little messy.
Missing half the football season is not that bad. You'll do great when you go back I'm sure. And your right. Your touch/flag football is so much more a "real sport" then soccer. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Give me a break! Don't they teach that "sport" at Girl Scout camp??
I have not decided yet on what to do with my collar. Lately I have not been in much of a partying mood. I've been a little down in the dumps. Forget the doctor. I could use the bottle of scotch! Do you have any ideas to offer on destroying the collar? How about putting it in a box and sending it off to some other county on the other side of the world? I still like the idea of tying it to a rock and dropping it in the lake.
Sounds like your doing great. I hope to hear from you again. As always your letters seem to pick me up. Have a good one!!~~KIM

Sam,
I'm free!! I'm free!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif
I went to my neuro yesterday and he FINALLY released me from my collar!! He showed me some really simple neck and back moves I should do for the next 2 months. After he showed me them I was to chicken to tell him that I had been running and practicing soccer.
On a positive note I did get to see my x-ray. My bones are completely fused. On my 8 week follow up I still had a small crack that was not fused. He said that they will continue to get stronger everyday! Thought I looked and moved great and was very pleased. :D
Thanks again for all your help! Your letters always picked me up when I was feeling down! You got me through a huge hurdle in life and for that I will always be thankful!! I hope we can continue to post as I still have a long ways to go! Love Ya!~~KIM

Hi Kim,
Congratulations! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/blob_fire.gif I just read your post and I'm thrilled for you. I think you have the record for the longest time in the brace (at least according to your doctor's orders - wink, wink). How is your neck feeling without the brace? Are you sleeping well? I won't go into the morning stiffness again. :round:
Please take it easy with the sports, although I'm not ready to admit soccer is a sport. Any game without the use of your hands can't be that enjoyable can it? Let's add it up - you are 28-ish, Polish, like to bowl, have a thing for sheep, and play soccer. Wow! Someone book me a ticket to Ohio. Just kidding. It sounds like you are very active and enjoy life.
I really enjoy your posts as well. They always make me laugh, smile and brighten my day. I'm glad we were able to pick each other up when the neck was hurting or the brace claustrophobia was setting in. Hope to hear from you soon!

Thanks Sam!!
Very Funny!! I sound like a Freak!
Things are going great here. I really thought I would have a hard time at night now that I don't have to sleep in that thing. But I woke up feeling (not stiff) fine. Haven't had a problem yet. I still have some burning at the base of my head. I talked to the doctor about that and he said that it was normal. He also said if I still had it at the end of the 6 months I could go back in and he would give me a cortisone shot. Ouch! I'm hoping I wont need that!
Are you still playing the part of a gopher or are you back to work full time? How's your buddies? Haven't heard a funny story about them in awhile!!
Thanks for your concerns. I do feel I am taking it pretty easy. It may sound like a lot to some, but I am taking it slow! Have you decided on when you were going to go back to your "sport" of touch football? Is this a "competitive" league? Do you have a team name? Or is it a bunch of men, in cut off shorts, coming together to relive childhood fantasies? :D Kidding!! Just kidding!!
You have an Amazing day!!~~KIM

Hi Kim,
A cortisone shot in the neck? Now that's sounds like a great time. I think I'll stick with my six-pack pillow! Hopefully you won't need the shot.
I am no longer the gopher at work and I am also full time again. It was an exhausting day today and I feel like I could go to sleep now and wake up tomorrow morning. The boss really pushed us hard today. My neck seems to be able to handle the activities well.
I know this will make your "sport" of soccer sound better, but yes, many of my teammates play football in cut off shorts. We do have a team name - we are Bailey's Bulldozers. (Bailey's is the name of the construction company I work for - they are our sponsor).
I'm off for a hot shower and some R & R http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dizzy.gif Have a great weekend and keep laughing!

Sam I am,
Howdy, Howdy!! So your BOSS pushed you hard at work and your neck felt fine afterwards. Sounds like your doing great. Back to work full time. Good for you, I think. :( I cant imagine working construction in the heat of Texas!
Bailey's Bulldozers. Catchy name. How many teams are in the league? You have a sponsor, so sounds like a big league. How long have you been playing? Are your buddies on the team with you? Did you play football back in school?
I don't think I will end up needing the cortisone shot. My neck these last couple of days has really been feeling fine. I went to my soccer game tonight and kicked the ball around with the team and had no problems with the neck. I sat out the game and kept the bench warm. :D Now, during the game, it started to rain and the temp. really dropped. I started to shiver and the muscles in my neck really tightened up. OUCH!!
Well, I'm gonna call it a night. I hope you have a Great Day!! talk to you later. Hey, one more thing. I asked this to Ken and now I'm asking you. What is the craziest thing you have ever done? Why do I have a feeling this is going to be a very amusing story!! See Ya!! ~~KIM

Sam I Am,
Good Morning!! Just a quickie to let you know I miss ya!
Sam, I had a really bad day yesterday??!! I don't know what I did that was different then any other day but I had a lot of pain in the back of my head and neck. It also felt like I was being choked all day. The night before I sat in the rain watching a soccer game and I got the shivers and my muscles really tightened up. Other then that I don't know what I did. Maybe I slept funny?? I don't know. Feeling better today. After reading some of the other post and hearing what they are going through I really shouldn't complain.
I wonder if anyone else is having problems with the cold weather? As soon as I start to shiver forget it. You can kiss my neck good-bye. Nothing seems to help the muscles after that. I hope that doesn't last long especially now that fall is here.
Cant wait to hear you story about the craziest thing you have ever done. I'm sure its going to be UNBELIEVABLE!
Oh well. I'm going to try and squeeze in a bike ride before the kiddies get home from school. Have a good one!! ~~KIM

Hi Kim,
I think I need to respond to a couple of posts so I'll try to answer the questions in that order. First of all, I hope your neck is feeling better today. I do have my good and bad days, but overall the neck is stronger. I found that simple exercises with the neck seem to really help, especially when the muscles feel like they are beginning to tighten. I can't comment on the cold weather change - Texas - you know!
Now for your questions: No. Sometimes. Always on Saturday. Definitely not. ;) I would consider that after a few beers! You can apply the answers to the question of your choice.
There are 12 teams in the league but the fact that we have a sponsor only means we receive free t-shirts with a big bulldozer on the back. I've been playing football since 5th grade and I have a lot of my buddies on the team. I love the game! I still don't understand the game of soccer (2 to nil). What the he$% does nil mean in sports? Kind of like tennis 40 - love. Huh?
I don't know if this would qualify for the craziest thing I've done (I can't discuss that on this board) but this would be my most embarrassing story. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif
I was 25 and was at an all night birthday party for a friend. By 3:00 am there were about 20 of us still going strong hanging out in the backyard by a bonfire. Someone suggested swimming in the lake and naturally it turned into a race to the water. The party was at an incredible house that had a huge backyard that led down to a dock on a lake. I can't remember who won the race but 5 or 6 people fell coming down the hill and rolled for about 20 feet - it was hilarious! Everyone eventually dove in and of course (at 3 am and after several enhancers) the clothes ended up on the dock. We were having a great time diving from the dock and swinging from a tree rope out over the water. Well, as you can imagine, we were very loud - way too loud for the neighbors as it turned out. Just as I was starting to swing on the rope, the police car spotlight went right on me - who says the Earth only has one moon :) Why I didn't jump off the rope I'll never know. I think I froze like a deer in the spotlight and just swung back and forth. Most of my friends were able to put clothes back on and avoid a fine. Unfortunately, I was cited for indecent exposure and public intoxication. As if that wasn't bad enough, while the policeman was writing my citations, I had to run to a tree to Toss my Tacos. My only satisfaction is knowing I contributed $250  to the community. I have a few friends who still refer to me as Moon.
Your turn! Hope you're feeling good! Sam

Sam

Tarzan,
Man, what can be said about that story!! Very Funny!! I had tears!! That was the best abdominal workout I've had in a long time!!
I can see you hanging on a rope, naked (ouch!!) with a spot light on your bASS! Hilarious! I'm still amazed you would hang from a rope naked!!? OUCH! Are you Crazy?!! I think we know the answer to that one!!
How can I top that story?? Unbelievable!! :D I was going to share a story that involved water and t-shirts. I'm not sure if I should?
Oh well I'm gonna call it a night. I just want to post you a quickie. You really "exposed" yourself with that story and I didn't want to leave you "hanging!" Have a great night!! I will post more tomorrow! ~~KIM

Moon,
Good Morning!! Just wanted to post to you again. I felt like I didn't fully respond to your last post. I just couldn't get past the story of you hanging naked (ouch) on a rope. I'm still laughing at that one. Why do I have a feeling there are more stories like that for you to share??!! I have a feeling that you "seize life". I bet you take advantage of every fun moment that comes your way. That's the way we all should live. Life is way to short!!
Its good to hear your doing so well with your neck. With the line of work you do it would be so easy for you to re-injure yourself. Did you have ant PT done? I'm wondering if I should look into it?!
I am having better days with my neck! The more I move it the better I feel. Played soccer last night with my sons team. I was a little "stiff" going into the practice but once I started playing I was fine.
Ok, I have a confession. At last Sundays game (my team) I went in the game for the last 10 min. I know, I know, let me explain. It was a very controlled team so I knew I was ok about not getting knocked down. Yes, I know a wild ball could have hit me in the head. That's why I wont be playing until my indoor team starts Oct. 25th. Had a great time out there. I really miss it!! But I'm going to sit out a little longer. I may have to have a friend hide my equipment from me so I cant put myself in the game! :D
12 teams? That's a pretty big league. That's great that you get to play with your buddies. That makes it all the more fun! What position do you play? Where do you play? On any large field or at High School football fields? I don't think I have ever heard of a football league in this area. If so I know I would join. I love to play football. What? A Girl on the football team you ask!? Yeah..Baby!! ;) Growing up I lived on a street with all boys. (not a bad deal!) There wasn't a day that went by that we weren't outside playing football! We played tackle football not that sissy touch football! :) (Love Ya!) I love your choice of sport so I really cant crack on it like you do soccer. I can only crack on the fact that it is touch instead of tackle!! You really should try soccer you may just like it!! :D
Well let me get this day moving. Please tell your Buddies I said hello! I haven't heard a story on them in a long time. I hope they are all doing fine. You have a Great Day!! ~~KIM

Hello Kim,
Did you wear your collar too tight and cut off the circulation to your brain? :nono: I was very surprised to read that you were back on the field for a soccer game. I know I've made some comments about soccer not really being a sport but I have seen a little bit on TV and it seems like there is a lot of contact, especially when the players slide tackle. I hope you take it easy! I'm going to assume your doctor wasn't on the sideline cheering.
OK - enough preaching. I did have some PT after I was through with the brace. The therapist taught me numerous simple exercises to strengthen my neck and shoulders. They are pretty boring and are very simple, but they have been helpful. I would suggest some PT to build back up your strength and flexibility.
On to football - I usually play receiver and cornerback. I'm hoping to be cleared to play in another month. I think the field is about 60 yards. It is divided in thirds so we can get a first down every 20 yards. Sorry, no girls aloud in this league. Hopefully, you're not stirring up some kind of equal rights lawsuit! I agree with your comments about touch football. I miss the tackling. I think we are all better off with the touch rule, otherwise, the area orthopaedic surgeons would be making a lot more money. I don't know if I could play soccer. I would probably trip all over the ball and try to catch anything in the air. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/t_down.gif
A story that involves water and t-shirts http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif My imagination is taking over so I better sign off.

Sammy,
Man, I knew you were going to give it to me!! And give it to me good you did!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/t_up.gif I agree, I agree. That's why I wont play again until indoor starts. I'm not telling you the date on that because you will just give it to me again.
But Sam, It did feel really good to be back there out on that field. I miss it. :( I can wait one more month. I'm not going to bring my shin guards to the games with me that way I know I wont be able to go in. The ref wont let you play without shin guards. Go ahead crack on the fact that we wear shin guards!
Receiver and cornerback? Not bad. Now if you said you played center, and LOVED it, I might be a little worried!
Do you play 8 on 8? Flags or touch. If touch, what are the rules with that? One hand? Two Hand? Below waist? If flags, one flag or two? How do you keep the flags on around your waist? Do they pull off fairly easy? Does the league provide officials for your game? With soccer we only need one ref. Home team has to provide and pay. With football I would think you need more then one. My guess would be 3-5 officials? What are your thoughts on that Sam?? :D
Oh well I'm going upstairs to take a hot bath. I had a great day today. I had a great workout this afternoon and had fun playing soccer with my son at his practice this evening. Good luck when you do go back and play football!! I hope to hear from you soon! As always have a Great Night!! ~~KIM

Good morning Sam,
Just a quickie to say top of the morning to ya! Haven't heard from you in a while. Hey, you haven't been caught hanging from a rope again have ya? Are you sitting in some jail cell waiting for a buddy to come bail you out? :D
I had a great week so far with my neck. I haven't been tightening up as bad as I use to. I hope that's a good sign!! Sat at a soccer game in the cold last night and I didn't have any problems. :) Hope your neck is doing just as good!
Have a small dilemma. My soccer team is going to be short women this week. I seen two of my women teammates last night and they were trying to talk me into playing this Sunday. Like that is hard to do. "Hey Kim, we need you this week, can you play?" Uhhh.. Ok!!! Its so hard to say no. The team we are playing use to be a really good, controlled team. But that was a year ago. A lot can change in a year. So, I don't know what to do. I really want to play. I guess I wont go dressed, watch the first quarter, and decide then. Sound good??
How's life been for Sam? I read your profile and I see you like to collect things. How's the Beer can collection going? As a kid we had a beer can collection. ( Boy, that didn't sound good  ) I should say my Dad had a beer can collection. It was fun! Every road trip we went on always ended up in a ditch along the highway somewhere. We would be driving along and one of us would yell " Hey dad, I seen a beer can in the ditch" my dad would pull over and we would search. I don't remember my mom enjoying it as much as us kids. It made for some long road trips. How long have you been collecting? Is one of your requirements for the collection that you had to actually drink the beer in the can before it can go on the shelf??!! What other thing do you collect?
Well Mister, you have a great day!! Talk to ya soon. ~~ KIM

Hi Kim,
OK - I'm going to assume the wet t-shirt story is a little too personal. I'm very glad to hear your neck is feeling much better.
On to your questions - your soccer game has probably come and gone but I'll throw in my two cents anyway. I'm waiting to return to my football league based on my doctor's original assessment. It has been a long wait but I only have two more weeks. I think it would behoove you to do the same - take the advice of your doctor! That being said, I should probably ask you how you played because I'm assuming you did http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Maybe your doctor will let it slide as it is only soccer. :D
Most of my beer can collecting days were as a kid also. I still collect cans but I know longer search highway ditches :) I think my dad would have left me in a ditch if I kept asking him to pull over!
My football team is 3-0 with 7 games left. I should be able to play in the last 5! It is tough to watch from the sidelines but at least my teammates let me join in the postgame celebration! My neck feels good most of the time. I notice it most in the morning and sometimes at night if I have been very active.
I will be in another fishing tournament this weekend - hopefully I'll do a little better. I wonder if I can sneak some dynamite past the officials at the check-in!
Do you have any upcoming softball tournaments in Texas? If you do, be sure to let me know - I'll supply the enhancers!

Sammy,
Good Morning!! Sorry I haven't post back to you in a while. My computer monitor was broken and I just got it back.
Ok- You were wrong. The wet t-shirt story was not too personal to tell. I just posted it to Ken. We have a football bet going and the loser (that has been me) has to answer any question asked by the winner. His last question was, what was my craziest thing I've ever done, so I post about the wet t-shirt story.
I was 19? years old, out with my girlfriends, and I was very "enhanced". My friends talked me into entering the contest. I did and I took second place. The first place winner was willing to show a little more then I. She left with the big prize and I left with just a little more dignity then her. I hope that "perked " up your day! Not as funny or crazy as your story. I laugh every time I think of you swinging naked on a rope. (ouch!)
Wow! Your football team is starting off good this year 3-0. I know exactly how you feel Sam when you said its hard to watch from the sidelines. I think that was the worst part of the whole ordeal. Watching as life continues on without you!! I give you a lot of credit for being strong and not returning to the game to early. I mean, here I am, a girl, returning to a really physical game, soccer, a few weeks early and your waiting the entire time your doctor ordered to return to "touch" football. :D
You were right I did play Sunday. I watched for the first quarter to see how controlled of a team they were and went in the last three. How did I play? I hate to brag, but for missing 7 months, I felt I played one of my better games. I had a couple of nice runs and took a nice shot on goal. I went for left corner and missed by a few inches. I'll blame that on the wind!! :) Not bad for my first full game back! We start indoor this week. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Cant wait!
Good luck on your fishing tournament this weekend. Keep me posted as to how you've done. I'm sure you will do better this time. I don't think it was possible to do any worse!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif
I wish we had a softball tournament in Texas its been in the low 50's here. I could use a little sunshine to warm me up! Have a good one!! ~~ KIM

Hello!! How the heck are ya?? Well......did you walk away with the biggest bASS?? How'd ya do in your fishing tournament?? You had to do better the last tournament you were in! :D Cant wait to hear. I'm sure you have one heck of a "fish story" to tell.
How did your football team do this weekend? Are you still undefeated? Did you play??? Come on now be honest! Did you play?? We had a game this past weekend. We lost again. We played a really tough team, and we were missing a lot of players. Excuses, excuses!!
Question for you. You told me your craziest thing you have ever done story, now I would love to hear the dumbest thing you have ever done? Although swinging on a rope naked?? OUCH!
You have a Great Day!! Look forward to your next post! ~~ KIM

Hi Kim,
Thanks for the wet t-shirt story. Second place sounds very impressive. :D My football team is now 5-0! I finally saw some action last Sunday. I was a little nervous in the first half but after catching a touchdown early in the second half all thoughts of my neck disappeared. Fortunately, I was never involved in much contact. How is your soccer proceeding? Is indoor soccer any rougher than outdoor? Soccer? Rough? I think not!
I finished 17th in the fishing tournament. It was a two weekend tournament. The first weekend you had to finish in the top 25 to continue to the second weekend. I was pleased to make the second weekend but the pressure of waiting all week was difficult. I think I would do better if I didn't follow my own rule of drinking a beer for each bass I catch. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Your last post asked for the dumbest thing I have ever done. I'm going to pass that question over to my buddies. I think I'll have a top ten list from them for you to enjoy!
Hope your neck is doing great :bouncing:

Welcome back to life Sam.! So how did it feel to play again? Were you sore at all the next day?? Was the team happy to have you back??
My indoor soccer is going great! I play Monday, Wednesday. and Friday. Having a great time with it. Don't tell anyone but I did hurt myself this weekend. I ran in a 5K, played soccer later that same day, and took the kids trick-or-treating in the evening. Somewhere in that day I injured my foot. Right in the arch. It hurts to put full body weight on it. The problem is I don't want to stop moving and give it a rest. I just came back I'm not sitting out now. I played soccer on it twice and it hurt but I worked my way through it. We will see how it is after tonight's game. If it is still bothering me I might get it x-rayed. Waa-waa-waa enough crying!
Big finish in the fishing tournament!! 17 place not bad! Damn, what was the prize? I mean, to feel pressure for a whole week, it had to be one he!! of a prize. :D Or was there some kind of consequence for losing? Oh, don't change your fishing rule! A beer for ever fish caught sounds fun to me!!
I cant wait to read the Top Ten Dumbest Things Done By Sam!! I can't even imagine what would be on the list! I'm sure its going to bring a tear or two!
Oh, one more thing. Is indoor soccer rough? Well it's not "touch" football! :D I'm comfortable saying that just the women on or team can give your team a run for your money!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif
Have a good one!! ~~KIM

Hi Kim,
I had a moment so I thought I would say hello! :D
The football team is 6-0 - a rather easy 26-0 win today (we played the last place team). Have you played soccer lately? How does your neck feel after playing competitively?
Have a great night!

Sam,
Congratulations on another win. Sounds like you have a really good team. Are you having an outstanding season this year or did your team always do well?
Ok, my soccer team lost on Friday. I think it was 8-3. That's a spanking in soccer! OK, I'm not very proud of this but I had my first foul called on me. I kept having a little run in with a guy on the other team.He kept pushing all night so finally I pushed back and got called for the foul. It was either for the push or that I tried to slid between his legs? Bad move on my part. :nono:
How does my neck feel after playing soccer? This week I am having some problems with it. It a little sore after Friday's game. Along with both knees and one foot!! :D I can keep my head straight. It wants to tip to the left??? I'm fighting that all day and its making the neck muscles burn a little.
How about you? How have you been feeling after plying football? I'm sorry I meant touch football!! :) Any problems with stiffness? Still using cold beer cans as ice packs? I love your style, Sam!
Glad to hear your doing well! Keep in touch! ~~KIM

Hi Kim,
Please be careful with the soccer. It sounds like the guy was way too rough against a woman. I didn't understand your comment about your head wanting to tip to the left. Did that start after your soccer game and is it continuing? Anything you need to mention to your doctor?
My neck has felt fine after football. I usually relax with several "enhancers" afterwards while watching pro football. It's a great way to spend a Sunday! :round:.
OK - now for the list. I conferred with my buddies and we came up with the top five.
5. When we were 12 or 13 we spent about a month throwing rotten tomatoes at passing cars. We would hide behind bushes at night. Throw and run for cover. We were of course caught. I'm lucky my father didn't brand me. Looking back as an adult, this was really stupid.
4. Again as kids, we setup a rope slide from my friends barn loft. Halfway down we would drop off into piles of hay. A lot of fun until my best friend dropped off too early and broke his leg. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dizzy.gif
3. As teenagers in high school my friends and I would truck surf on my friends pick-up. We had a blast at the time but now realize we were lucky no one was hurt. Really stupid considering we surfed on the hood and blocked the driver's view. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/t_down.gif
2. My friends and I went to Las Vegas. They dared me and I accepted. I paid for some alternative entertainment. Enough said! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif
1. And the number one - I recovered a fumble in a high school football game but ran the wrong way. Luckily, a teammate tackled me 35 yards later. They will never let me forget this one. No, the coach did not give me the game ball - but we did win the game. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif
Keep that neck safe!

Sam, Sam, Sam,
"You get me smiling even when it hurts!"........a little Shania Twain.
Thanks! I needed that little pick me up! You always know how to bring a smile to my face.
Your top Five list was hilarious!! Some of them I have done myself.
#5- I spent a lot of summers on my grandfathers farm. We would throw tomatoes at groundhogs, trees, the few cars that would make its way down the dirt road, but mostly at each other.Tomato War!!
#4- We would swing over this fairly large ravine from those big vines the hang in the trees. Little did we know those grow from the ground up and once while my cousin was swinging away it pulled from the tree top and she fell and almost broke her leg.
#3- Never tried it! But damn if that doesn't sound fun!
#2- Once in New York, but not on a dare. Hey, curiosity got to me!! Ohh...what's $20 bucks!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif
#1- I was involved in trying to start a girls football team in high school. Shocking Sam I know, girls playing football? What has this world come to??!!
Sounds like we have a lot in common. I'm sure we could be very good friends. We would probably laugh all the time! Well, except for one thing. What's this business about "sounds like the guy was playing way too rough against a woman"?? I know I gave him a run for his money and after the game he was telling me how I hurt his poor little thigh! Waaah...Waaaah! I was bleeding for well over an hour when someone pointed out to me. I said "I dont have time to bleed!" But they tossed me a Band-Aid anyway!. :D
Hey, you have a Great night!! Thanks again Sam! Keep the posts a comin' !! ~~KIM

Sammy,
Hello, thought I would have heard from you by now. How was last weeks football game? Are you still undefeated? How did you play? How has you neck been these days? We won our soccer game 7-4 on Friday. This week we play one of the tougher teams. Hopefully we will do better indoors against them then we did outdoors.
Ok, new question. I asked this one to Ken and got a very interesting response, now I would like to ask you. What is your fondest childhood memory?
You asked about my head tipping to the left. When I tip my head back and let it relax and settle into place my head tips to the left instead of staying straight?? Its very slight and I am probably the only one who would notice it but it does do it. Why? He!! if I know. :D
Well I hope to hear from ya soon. You have been gone for awhile. Your a good friend Sam and I would hate to lose you!! Have a Great Day!! ~~KIM

Hey Kim!
http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif YAAAAAAAHHHHHHHOOOOOOOO :bouncing:
You have passed your six month restriction. Congratulations! With your great zest for life and outlook, I knew you could do it. I bet you are always smiling :D
Whatever became of your brace? Is it still around or did you melt it into a pancake?
How was your Thanksgiving? I recommend (to myself) that I no longer hunt for a turkey the week before - I nearly broke my ankle falling over a log and rolling down a ravine. Next year it is Piggly Wiggly for me!

Sam,
YAAAAAAAHHHHOOOOO!!!!!!! :bouncing:
I am finally through that whole freakin' ordeal!!! I hope I never, ever have to do that ever again!!
How the heck are you stranger! Where have you been?? How long did you lay down in that ravine?? Next time you go hunting can you please take your lap top!! I need post Sam, lots of them! I'm one of those high maintenance e-mail friends. Its all about me, Sam! My nick name is Tinkerbell and I earned that name!! :D Sorry, just dishing out a little S**t!
Turkey hunting? You cheep b*s*@*d!! Buy one!! :D Ok... big question. Did you at least get a bird? Bigger question, how's the ankle? Man, your lucky your buddies didn't shoot you to put you out of your misery! That or so they wouldn't have to help you back to your truck!
Did you get to play any football over the long festive weekend? I tried to pull together a pick up game of football with my friends, but everyone went out of town. The last time I played was right before I found out how bad my neck really was. I'm lucky too, because I was diving all over the place going for the ball. I ended up in a small tree, and almost hit a deck. I'm a nut! I could have really done some damage! Oh well, I didn't know. So lets play now that I hit my 6 month mark. What am I worried about? I play soccer for gosh sakes! That's a much rougher sport then football! :)
Ten-four good buddy!!
Hope you have an AMAZING DAY!!!! ~~KIM

Good Morning Sam,
Hope life finds you well, happy, and you have everything you've ever dreamed of!! Life is to short to settle for anything less!! Wow, that was bordering deep and a little girly! Sorry about that crap! Wont happen again! Lets try that over....How the heck are ya? How's it hanging? Better? :D
You had asked in your last post if I had done anything with my neck brace. Well, I did. While I was wearing the brace I would sometimes ( quite often) go to this park in our neighborhood. Sometimes I would walk to it, ride my bike. Well anyway, I would go there on days when I wanted to escape. I would sit under this tree off the beaten path and think, relax, eat lunch, watch the birds, just get away. So yesterday I took my brace up to the park and I climbed this tree and put the brace around a branch. I Velcro it really tight so I hope it will stay up there for awhile.
Before I put it in the tree I placed stickers on it. When I wore the brace I was constantly changing stickers on if for events that I would attend. Like: soccer balls for the game, baseballs when I went to a game, shells when I went to Florida, flowers when I wanted to feel pretty (yeah, like that could happen wearing that thing around my neck!) stuff like that. Well on the brace now are stickers that tell a little story about me while I was in the brace. I put of course a soccer ball with my # on it, a jet ski sticker :nono: , the date of my surgery, shells, flowers. and some other stuff that meant something to me! So there it sits, up in a tree. I would love for it to become a home for some animal maybe a little titmouse. That would be cool. Sorry! It wasn't the big bonfire party parting! Anyway, enough about that!
Sam...are you still awake? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/yawn.gif How's you brace? Is it still duct taped to your garage?? Love It!
Hope you have a good one!! There is nothing like a good one!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif ~~KIM

Hi Kim,
That was a nice story about your brace in a tree. The tranquility of your experience sounded very peaceful and calming. I'm not sure if I should ask, but what the heck, what is a titmouse?
Not quite what I expected from you. I was anticipating a story of destruction - fire, axe, "swimming with the fishes", etc. My brace still is on my garage wall. Right under my 1998 Texas plates!
Have an awesome weekend. I don't even bother trying to advise you to take it easy - do you ever? - do you know the meaning? It is poker and enhancers with my buddies tonight http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/blob_fire.gif

Dr. Sam,
Howdy do? Hope you had an enjoyable weekend! Been meaning to ask you how your football team has been doing? Is your season still going or is it over? Did you remain undefeated? If it is over what are you up to now?
How has your neck been for you? I still have some bad days but over all I really should not complain. Some of the stories on here are heart breaking. It really puts my pain into prospective. I know, pain is pain but I am very lucky that I am able to still do the things I love to do. Like soccer! Had a game Friday and scored a goal for the team. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif We play good but ended up losing it in the end. Our defense just fell apart. They were a good team and it was pretty exciting to be winning at the end of the first half. Oh well!
So you liked what I did with my neck brace? I know I was suppose to destroy the sucker but I thought of this instead. It looks so funny stuck up there in the tree! Love it!! I went back the other day to see if it was still there and it was. It had snow in the top of it . It looked really cool. No little titmouse living in it yet! I am shocked that you Mr. Hunter & Fishing Guy, that you don't know what a titmouse is!! Its a bird silly! It happens to be my favorite bird. I like it because it bring back a lot of memories for me with my Grandfather. Its a feisty and hyper little bird with a pointy head. Perfect for my neck brace!!
How was the poker game with your buddies? Any funny stories to share? Did you win big or did you lose your bASS? :D Did you play for money or clothing?? Details baby, details!!
Hope you have a good one!! Talk to you later!! ~~KIM

Good morning Kim!
Thanks for the description of the titmouse. The bird sounds a lot like you - feisty! Our football season was a great success - undefeated. Are you still playing soccer. Congratulations on your goal in your last post. Are you leading the team in scoring yet.
Thanks for all of your posts. They are a lot of fun to re-read. Although I only know you from the internet, I am convinced you are an incredible person. Hope you have an incredible day!

Good morning Sam!!
What a nice surprise! Thanks! Haven't heard from you in a while. How the heck are ya!!
Congratulation on your football season! Undefeated! Pretty impressive. I wish I could say the same for my indoor soccer team. We did pretty good. We had our last game of this session last night and ended with 5 wins and 3 losses. Not bad, about what we expected. Our next session starts on the 3rd.
Am I leading the team in scoring? Not the team but I think I lead the women. I had 4 goals and 4 assist but hey who's counting! :D I had the first goal of the game last night and 2 assist. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif I would have 6 goals for this session but I had 2 balls stolen from me by a guy on my team. :nono: One was last night. I used the wall to set up a shot for my left foot and he stepped in front of me and took the shot and scored. So, Yey!! another assist for me!! :) Very typical. The women do all the work and the man gets the credit!!
Thank for the kind words. I do enjoy reading all of our old post too! I hope you have a Very Merry Christmas!! What did you ask Santa to bring you?? Was Sam naughty or nice this year? Have a Great Day!! ~~KIM

So....I'm dying to know. What did Santa bring you for Christmas? Was Sam a good boy or a bad boy this year? What's been going on with you?? Football, fishing, hunting...???
No need to ask me you now what I've been doing! Soccer, soccer, and more soccer!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif Post soon. ~~KIM

Sam,
Hello!Haven't heard from you in a while and was wondering how you have been? How the neck holding up? Maybe you didnt survive the holiday's??!! I went to post a new joke in the " joke of the day" and they band that topic!! I guess we know now what the "new" joke of the day is!
My neck is hanging in there. I have some trouble when I tip my head up. I think its because I have 3 bones fused and it puts more pressure on the vertebrae below when I tip my head back. Oh, well. Hope to hear from you soon. Take care! ~~ KIM
