I just had an anterior decompression surgery c 5-6 fusion. I am post op 1 week. The operation went okay but I am still having varying degrees of numbness in fingers, legs, and torso. My balance is better and my gait speed has improved. Can anyone tell me how long it may take to regain some of the function that was lossed due to the compression and how likely it is that some of the symptoms will remain permanently. If so, are there currently clinical trials on therapies used to regain function that was lossed due to compression. Any good knowledge is well appreciated.

era, today I'm 6 weeks post-op anterior c-7. I was not in bad shape going in, so might not be a good exaple. I had a really hard time finding a comfortable sleep position. I did fall asleep once on my back (with) the brace on, and both hands went dead! that was about one week post op. it was scary, but now I can lay on my back to read with no problems. good luck.
