Hi, Looking for advice please....

Due to a motorbike accident last June i managed to crush the L1 Vertebrae. Just had an MRI Scan and more X-rays which lead my first surgeon to recommend Fusing L1 to L2, am due to visit another neurosurgeon in two weeks for his opinion.
Quite frankly his description of the operation scared the pants off me, 9 Hours with possible complications such as ruptured diaphram and possibility of damage to major blood vessels.

Has anyone else had this done?, any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I fractured L1 due to a motorbike accident, but luckily for me it has not been necessary to preform surgery, although the bone is unstable I had no nerve damage and only slight curving of the spine. I am going to repost your query on the back healthboard to see if anyone there can help you.

Thanks, The nerves were not damaged (thank God) but The MRI shows that the area around the spinal column has been reduced in size which worries me.
Seeing a second surgeon on monday which will hopefully help me decide.

Hi,

just wondering how much of the area around the spinal cord has been lost. Mine has been reduced by 1/3 of the original size. My consultant doesn't want to operate as he thinks that it not worth taking the risk.

Regards JJkursed.
