Hi Guys!

I am always on different boards but this time my requests are a little different to normal.

Okay, My dad has been smoking canabis since he was 13 he is now 35, I have never had a poblem with this and he does not do any other drugs, occasionally I smoke it myself as I hate taking painkillers for my scillios or sleeping tablets.

My dad has been offered a great job and realy wants to get a good career out of it, with the money we could be alot better financially stable, the problem is he has to give up smoking as they do drug tests.

Can anyone give me some advised on how to help him get through the withdrawal symtoms. People may say there arnt any but believe you me, he will be stressed right out, wont be able to sleep, proberly depressed and on edge constantly. Anyone got any good ideas?

No, I don't know of any way to make it better. He's just going to have to deal with it if he wants the job. He'll be grumpy for a while....I've found that weed is mostly an emotionally addictive drug...meaning that you miss the emotional state it puts you in more than you actually have physical cravings for it. At least that has been my experience.

Maybe he could take some non-addictive over the counter meds to help him sleep better, cause he will definatley have trouble sleeping for a while.

Good luck to your family.

Littlehope there is no withdrawls. somple as that. If he wont do it then he's having you on.
I smoked weed for years and came off it almost instantly, im usually around it most days and never feel like having any. Mind you heroin took its place so that could have something to do with it. But the bottom line is there is no physical withdrawls and were not talking crack here which is horribley mentally addictive, its weed for heaven sake. Oh tell him to be off it at LEAST 45 days before he goes for this job, it stays in your system for minimum a month when youve been smoking it that long.

Some people may not experience withdrawl symptoms and others may. Symptoms may include anxiety, increased physical tension, loss of appetite and sleeplessness. Again, this is some people not all. There are dietary supplements that may help, such as Omega 3 fatty fish oil for the anxiety, 5HTP for the sleeplessness and tension and as far as lack of appetite, being aware of his caloric needs and maybe drinking breakfast drinks or protein shakes. Since the chemicals in pot are fat soluable, (they are stored in fat cells) they can take awhile to get out of the system (15-30 days) which is why they show up on drug tests a month or so later. From our experience in my home, it isn't always easy to JUST STOP. There are some physical symptoms of addiction as well as pschological ones. (Again, this is our experience in OUR home, if you disagree based on your experience, I respect your opinion) every time pot was removed from the mix, something else took its place, usually alcohol. So be patient and understanding. Good luck.
