Hi Vicki,
If you look at an earlier posting today by Nanner-posted at about 4:00, you will find a wonderful start to some of the terms used here often.
Peace to you & Roy.

Thanks Catherine and Joanne. That does clear up some of thie things I wanted to know. So now that I know what EMG Stands for could someone please tell me what it is for and how it is done, and what it does or doesn't show?
And boy do I feel silly...In one of my posts I put down that Roy had fusion with ABCDEF. But now I got it strieght I think.
Roy had ACDF C4-T1 with wire wrap??? Right uhh is anterior were they go in through the back? Cause that is what Roy had done the first time. Well then the second time the repair to the hole was in neck at the bottor and was also done from the back.

Hi Vicki
Actually I got a kick out of your "ABCDEF" , it made me laugh. As to the EMG, I had one done. Basically it is a test to check for nerve damage. They stick needles in the area, mine was neck and arm, and sometimes send you a shock which they measure on a computer somehow. Then other needles they just probe around (without shock) and measure reactions ( I suppose) also on a computer. Mine showed nueropathy caused by my neck and also another source. Anyway the test is a breeze. Im sure someone else will give a more accurate description of the test.
When is your DH next surgery? Take care, and remember "ABCDEFG", we'll save the rest for later. LOL Babs

Vicki, anterior is through the front, posterior is the back. Anterior is now the much preferred way to do a cervicial discectomy.
I thought of putting more info with the acronyms, but was afraid the post would be HUGE if I did that. Besides, it's every newbie's right to ask those with experience about a test or procedure they are about to undergo for the first time.
Even so, new folks should also use the search button. Vicki, you would learn more than you ever wanted to know about EMGs, CT myelograms and other tests that way. Not to mention the dreaded ABCDEF!

Vicky, I have to say that your ABCDEF is one of the cutest mistakes, and I'm still chuckling about it! I suggest you put it on one of Belle's joke threads here; it rates right up there.
Yes, the terminology of all these tests and procedures is very hard to grasp. But since your DH is involved, you have the incentive to learn these things. You'll do fine. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/heart.gif
