Hi everyone,I,m new to forum but very glad I found this place. I have been taking vicoden es for about 2 years now due to chronic backpain(3-6 a day).I have been taking them for pain but feel that I am highly addicted to them mentaly also.I am at the point now that I have no choice but to discontinue use of these meds. What should I exspect from withdraws as I have been without them before for a few hour and start to feel really bad.How long will the withdraws last?

for the love of god man, if you've been taking vicodin that long, DO NOT just stop taking them. for one thing, do you still have chronic back pain? because, i don't know, if you have a legitimate need for them.... but anyway, AT LEAST talk to your doctor about this concern of yours, and if you want to come off them, have him make a plan with/for you to gradually come down from them. the sad part is, you will still have withdrawal symptoms tapering off them, but not as bad as cold turkey. things i experienced from time to time were (and i hadnt taken them for 2 years) diarrhea, general exhaustion/achiness, maybe some mild cold-like symptoms. its not fun. see, your body has kind of like natural opoid receptors in the brain, and when you're on meds long term, the meds replace the receptors so your body stops producing them because it see they're already there. but they disappear quickly (much like the 'high' from the pills only last a couple hours) and the receptors the body produces are to block several little impulses of everyday pain. hence, when you go off the meds, suddenly the brain is without the receptors, and you feel EVERY LITTLE SENSATION OF PAIN and uncomfortability. and it takes a little while for the brain to make back its normal supple of receptors. good luck
