Hey Guys,
My poor sweet baby, Cody Dog, had to be put down...He’s my best bud’s dog (Lab/Shep mix) ...I just loved him so much...I feel so sad for my buddy too...they were joined at the hip...she was just so crushed...I can’t believe I’m not gonna be seeing him again...we took walks together 4 to 5 times a week...He was always so happy to see me....he’d jump up and down...all excited...knowing we were off to see Nana (my bud’s MIL)...and Nana always had treats...He was 13 yrs old....up until 2 weeks ago you’d never know it though...he’d fly through the fields and play like a puppy...nobody believed he was that old...He had to be put to sleep because of a massive tumor...my sweet baby...he’s gonna be so missed by so many...it was so sad watching him deteriorate in the last 2 weeks...he just kept getting thinner...his energy level was almost nil compared to his usual...his sparkle dimmed....his breathing was labored...well, at least my baby’s not gonna suffer anymore...I’ll certainly miss him tearing up behind us as we walked along in the dark and zooming through between Debbie and I, scaring the daylights out of us....or watching him comically bounding back to join us when we called him back because he’d gotten too far ahead....he was such a joy...I love ya Cody Baby...I miss ya bud. :(
Just so I don’t leave ya on this sad note...we don’t need anymore of that now :nono: ...besides as I have said....my mission in life is to leave people smilin’ ...so the good news is...My trip to Sudbury was awesome...short but awesome...Laurie picked me up all prepared of course...sweet thing that she is...she had her back massage heating pad thingy all set up on my seat for me...the ride up although somewhat painful, was a hoot...the weather was awesome...and the scenery was incredible...when we arrived she backed the pick-up into the driveway (windows are tinted) so no one would see me (we were surprising my Mom and Dad)(my parents had not met Laurie yet)...Laurie then grabbed her guitar and overnight bag out of the back of the truck....went to the front door...knocked...My Mom answers...Laurie says “Hi Dorothy...Good to see you...Hope you don’t mind my dropping by....I brought my friend along too...I hope it’s alright...she’s a little shy though”...at that moment I walked in the door...It actually took a few seconds for it to really sink in...then she screamed....Joanne....Laurie swears...and has told everyone since we’ve been back...that she actually heard my Mom’s heart sing...tee hee...Laurie has now been adopted by my family...She has put my Mom on a mission...she told my Mom that if she collects more stuff (donations) for the store...she’ll be more than happy to bring me on another Road Trip...not that Laurie ever needs an excuse for a Road Trip...she just wanted my Mom to know that she wouldn’t have to wait so long to see me again...she just won’t let it happen...Laurie and I didn’t sleep very well that night...we slept on the sofa bed...I felt so bad...I kept waking up from the pain...having to change positions...and each time Laurie would be awake asking...are you okay?...I thought I was keeping her awake but she says it was just because she was not in her own bed...The ride home was a little more painful but still great...we had such a great time...cracking each other up...and very happy knowing we had left everyone smilin’

Hey Joanne,
I'm so glad you had such a good time with your mother and friend. Road trips are only as good as the company you keep along the way. Sounds like you've got a keeper of a friend. I like the way you surprised your mom.
We used to do stuff like that to my mom when we'd make the trip to visit her. Once, we had my nephew (then about 10) sit on her doorstep at 12 midnight, crying that he was lost. My sister and I were hiding in the bushes, and my nephew had his back to her with his face in his hands, so mom hadn't a clue. Sometimes I think we're all a little "off" in my family. It doesn't take much to entertain us!
I'm sorry about Cody Dog. That's a unique kind of grief, I know. I believe that he's up there in heaven...and yes, dogs DO go to heaven!....bugging Jesus to play with him....right alongside of my Shelby Khan. Again, my sympathies.
Hope you're recouping from the travel well. Riding is hard on these ol' backs. Get some rest.
