Hi All...I'm posting this on behalf of my mother, Leta, who suffered a broken neck 9/2001, had immediate fusion surgery for the C4/C5 vertebrae, has recovered to the extent that she can walk but has limited use of her right leg and right hand.

She is going thru PT but is still in lots of pain, has burning sensation in right leg from the foot up to the hip and is willing to try just about anything to get her moving better.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Joanne

BTW: Please let me know if I am not posting to the appropriate forum. Thanks.

Helllo. I have never had my neck broken, but did have a huge tumor removed from my spinal cord in that area. Was told I may end up a quadrapelegic. I was 23 at the time and healthy. After a 18 hour surgery on Dec 18 I walked out of the hospital christmas eve. My left arm and leg would barely work at all, but kept pumping soup cans while watching tv or whatever. Walked every day till tired. I now am almost back to normal except that my left foot is always ice cold--at least feels that way. I think how well you recover is your mindset after the surgery. I was supposed to be hospitalized 3 months. Give her all the support you can and get her to work at recovering. One man who amazes me is Christopher Reeve--(superman). He has recovered far more than they ever thought he would. Good Luck and hope all works out great.
