View Full Version : Surgery Schedules

Hey guys

Surgery is finally scheduled. Will have it done on May 13th! How's that for prompt service?

I will be having a one level fusion at C6-7 with donor bone and titanium plate. He may also fuse C5-6 but wants to look at it more closely during surgery. The best thing of all is NO COLLAR http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif Said the plate would keep me aligned and he hasn't used any collars in his other surgeries, with good results.

I told him he was out of network with my insurance, and he told me not to worry, he would just accept whatever my insurance will pay and not bill me at all for his fee.

He also put me on Norco and Soma. He was upset about the PM cutting my Ultram. Said I shouldn't have to be in pain and that if the Norco didn't work, to call him and he would give me something else.

He said that this was the second time today, that he has had complaints about my particular PM.

So, all I have to do is set up the preop testing, clean the house, buy groceries, arrange for help, fill out my FMLA papers........... pant, pant, gasp..... and I will be all set. :)

You guys have been great. Helped me to ask all the right questions. Don't know what I would do without you. :bounce:

Hey Lea,

Fantastic news! I know your head is spinning right now....setting the date does that to you. Just don't wear yourself down trying to get it all done before the surgery. It's almost like a 'nesting instinct' takes over, and it's good to be prepared, but recruit some help where you can.

I wish you well....and hey, a few cobwebs never hurt anybody....it'll give you something to marvel at while you're recovering. :D

Thanks guys,

The temptation is to "nest" and wear myself out :nono:

I'm going to pretend I'm having a party and go from there. Will try and pick up a little at a time. Yeah right!

Have alot of work to get done at the job, but I am really in a good place there. They are already giving me grief about being off, can't say that I blame them, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!

Took my Soma and Norco and looking forward to a good night's sleep http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/yawn.gif Hope I wake up in the morning.

I am so very happy for you Lea. I go in Monday May 12th for a 2 level fusion with plate and hardware. I will keep you in my prayers. I am also getting my house in order, grocery shopping, etc. My kids are going to be rudely awaken (I do more for them than I should) when they have to help out in the house. It will be good for them!

Keep your mind busy but don't overdo it!

Lea,

That's super that you are getting in quickly and finally getting some resolution for your problems. Try not to even think about work, take care of your health first. It sounds like you have a great surgeon, and having a good relationship with the person who is going to operate on you is very important. It will allow you to go under without an inordinate amount of fear or anxiety. You can relax, knowing you are in good caring hands, and that you are considered a person, not a number. Good for you, I'm very happy for you!! :D

You guys are the best!

Mel, it is so good to hear from you. Not a day goes by without me thinking about you. Let us know what is going on with the lawyer.

As for sleep, not good last night. I have a paradoxical reaction to opiates, make me wired and itchy. Too much pain today, as I missed a step on the stairs and had to twist to catch myself. Taking Vistaril with the meds tonite, that should keep the itching at bay.

Catherine, good idea. I will scroll through the posts. Going to interesting without a collar. Will have to be extra careful.

Melford, good to hear from you my friend.

Charlotte and Keith, thanks for the congrats. I do feel really comfortable with my NS. He is just so down to earth, no God complex at all.

After surgery, I won't be able to post due to the computer being in our upstairs loft. My husb will post after I get home. He may bring his laptop home a few days to let me hook up downstairs, but I will have very little access to the net for awhile.

I am taking a minimum of 5 weeks off and then maybe go half days for a couple of weeks. It's happening a little fast, isn't it, but I am soooo ready.

Kim,

I know what you mean about the rude awakening for the kids. My 7 y/o is used to mom being in and out of the hospital. Had alot of health problems his first 5 years, but had a 2 year run of good health before all this happened.

Josh is just happy I am going to be home for awhile and keeps asking me when we will be able to go to the pool! Me too, I literally live in the water in the summer, have to with the Arkansas heat.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Hi to All my Friends !

I haven't been on here much but looking up this post I still see a lot of my old mates names! :)
Just wanted to say Hello, and , apart from becoming a First time Grandma in Feb ,to a dear wee girl, I received a shock last week to be given ANOTHER Appointment for another MRI SCAN on Friday.!!

I've had 3 Spinal Ops over 2 1/2 yrs, revealing BAD damage to the spinal cord, 2 MRIs' and 1 CAT Scan, now told I'm allowed another Scan !
We are appreciative to be given the chance to find out if possible what may be still causing me not to be able to walk , etc. so I thought for those of my mates who remember me ( Mel, Nanner, Debbie, Winged Phantom,Bruce, bounce , Oliver,Lea, Kim, Lori, Charlotte, Keith, et.al.) , this is where I'm at again.
The N/S ordered it apparently; I was told he is in a bit of a quandary about me . I feel so sorry for him , he has done so much to help me , and I feel so embarassed this is happening still, I know I shouldn't , but I wish all this would just finsh so I can get on !

Never mind , we'll see after the MRI ( as long as nothing stuffs up my chance s!)
So, Hi to everyone , :) it's nice to have a chance to say I'm thinking of you all again. I never forget you All, You've All meant so much to me .. you'll never know how much !! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/heart.gif

Hi Nanner et al

I went for the 3rd MRI Scan today . Was in it 1 1/4 hours , and 45 minutes of it was of solid Scanning .. So now it will be interesting to see if I get a good result or what? :) :( Scary!!!

The problem is I have made a decision which may seem a bit strange to some, that I'm not going to reveal the result to anyone , even family , unless I CHOOSE to, as I know , NO MATTER WHAT the result may be , I will be put in a corner and labelled ( Spine/op/ MS, not MS, or some other strange disability, etc,)

or become , as has happened numerous times over years, A TARGET for so many uninformed OPINIONS of well intentioned family and friends , so I'm going to keep it to myself .
I may be disabled , but I can still retain some control over my body , http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif , eh Nanner ? Does that make sense to you? ???
Thanks for your reply .. hope you are doing well after your EPI?..

Belle,
how glad I am to see and hear from you.
I am glad that you are making decions that empower you. All of us need as much power and control as we can grasp . To feel powerless is to become hopeless, that is not a state to be in.
I hope this finds you having a good day, and I hope that this scan will give you some solid answers, to the many issues you have faced. It,s funny that you feel bad for the surgeon, it always amazes me that we feel like bad patients when our bodies don,t respond to treatment and procedures as expected. Ahh , the joy of being human.
How is your darling grandchild? Growinga nd thriving no doubt, do you spend much time with her?
Hope to hear from you soon, please don't be a stranger.

Mel
