My severe pain flucuates from my neck to my arm. (a few days my severe pain is in my right neck/shoulder area, the next few days it is my right arm). Does anyone else have pain that flucuates like this? Your response will be so helpful.
Thanks
charlotte

ps. My previous neuro doc wrote that my pain was non organic in nature because it flucuates like this.
I can't stand it.

My pain before surgery did the same exact thing. All I can say, try as I might, I could never figure out why. What I did one day to the next, etc... it just changed. Think alot of folks here had the same problem... we'll see.
I'm just sorry to hear it Charlotte :(

HI Charlotte,
How are you hon?
Yes my pain fluctuates also, can be that really deep disc pain, can be electric pain in arms and legs( although its more numbness and rigidity nowadays),can be spasm, or neuropathic, but yes the pain fluctuates. And that does not make it non-organic. I think non-organic is maybe the i dont want to deal with this, brush off. I was told the same thing by the ins. co. docs. , but I did the full psych exam and testing. And guess what, findings were that I was not suffering from any psyc. related symptoms, but reacting appropriatly to the medical situation.
Take care of yourself my friend, keep on fighting.
Love Mel

Hi Charlotte,

My pain also flutates from left side head, neck and arm to often the following day the same on the right. Sometimes it left with right headache or right neck and arm. Mine is dicogenic and I think it makes sense for one side to be painfull and be compensated for by the other and so switch. It is frustrating! and for me it seems to be one side or the other. Take care,
Mel

MEL, MEL, AND DEBBIE,
THANKS FOR THE INPUT. I HOPE OTHERS WILL REPLY. I THINK I JUST NEEDED SOME REASSURANCE BECAUSE THESE DOCS ARE PLAYING WITH MY MIND. SURELY THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO PEOPLES LIVES. I WILL BE GLAD WHEN THIS NIGHTMARE IS OVER.
CHARLOTTE

MEL, IT STILL BLOWS MY MIND THAT YOU'VE HAD TO PUT UP WITH THIS FOR THREE YEARS. ARE YOU GETTING ANY CLOSER TO RESOLVE WITH YOUR NEW LAWYER? I THINK I'M GOING TO TRY A DIFFERENT LAWYER; ONE IN MY HOME TOWN THAT KNOWS ME. I AM CURIOUS TO KNOW WHAT HE THINKS ABOUT THIS MESS. I SAW HIM AT THE FAIR THE OTHER NIGHT AND HE TOLD ME TO BRING MY MRI AND MYLEO REPORTS BY.

I WENT BY THE HOSPITAL TODAY TO GIVE THEM MY RESIGNATION. I EXPLAINED MY SITUATION TO THE CCU AND 3-5 SUPERVISOR. THEY TOOK ME TO HUMAN RESOURCES TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIND A JOB FOR ME THAT DIDN'T REQUIRE LIFTING. THEY SAID THERE MAY BE A CASE MANAGEMENT JOB OR SIMILAR THAT MIGHT COME OPEN. THEY ARE GOING TO PUT EMAILS OUT TO ALL THE SUPERVISORS TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIND ME SOMETHING. I ONLY WORKED THERE 4 MONTHS BEFORE I GOT HURT SO IT HELPED MY BRUISED EGO THAT THEY WOULD PUT FORTH THE EFFORT TO FIND ME A POSITION. ALSO THE ONCOLOGIST THAT I USE TO WORK FOR WANTS ME TO COME WORK AT LEAST PRN THIS SUMMER. I THINK I AM GOING TO TRY TO WORK MORE AFTER GIVING MYSELF ANOTHER MONTH OF MY CHIROPRACTOR AND SWIMMING THERAPY. WE WILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I WONDER IF THIS WILL JUST KEEP PROGRESSING IF I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING DONE. IT SEEMS YOURS DID. I GUESS I WILL JUST LIVE EACH DAY AS IT COMES. STAY STRONG MY FRIEND

Charlotte,

Me too! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dizzy.gif

My pain fluctuates and travels all over. I think it also depends on the movement in my neck, postion, etc whatever portion is pressing the nerve at the time.

Sometimes I have gotten the pain down my right arm, but not consistently. I think you need to see someone else who has some common sense.

That is great about your work. Case management can be mentally draining, but not that physically demanding, although sitting at the computer all day and being on the phone can take its toll.

I love doing desk jobs. Have been an administrative nurse for 12 years. Loved being a rounding nurse. Now I do assessments and I also dictate charts for one doctor(used to have 7 docs to work for before my health went south) I use a head set for the phone. Makes it alot easier.

Will be praying you find something soon.

Charlotte,

My pain has always fluctuated. In the beginning, when it was just in the arm, it would get worse and then better for no apparent reason. Once I started getting neck pain, it would sometimes be worse in the neck, sometimes worse in the arm. For weeks after surgery, it was equally bad from the neck to the elbow. Now, it fluctuates again, but my arm seems to be worse. I have never been able to figure out why this happens, but I'm sure we do something that we don't even realize. Neither NS that I saw asked me about this.

Charlotte,

For what it's worth, as our situations are different, I have the nomad pain too. Sometimes it originates in the low back and stays there, sometimes it travels the entire length of my right leg, and sometimes it only zaps my knee on down. Often it will attack my right foot only.

Damaged nerves to not act normally or 'by the book'. Don't let these doctors, who should know better, make you feel minimized concerning your REAL pain symptoms. Hang in there, friend.

Yes, my pain fluctuates a LOT! Prior to my surgery I had been able to figure out how to use my back and avoid causing pain. Since my surgery I have not been able to figure out any cause and effect. It always seems to be a delayed reaction. My pain is more from one side to the other. One side the muscles were tightened by the surgery and the other side they were loosened........feel like Jeckyl and Hyde!

love and prayers,

aj in Oregon

Charlotte, I seem to remember in 1989 when this all started that I had "galloping" symptoms. It drove me crazy, because I had no idea what it could all mean... except that it was NOT JUST IN MY HEAD! Keep in mind that was in the days before the www was invented.

Heck, I wish I could get my pain to fluctuate to somewhere else for a while, and give my shoulder and neck a break!! :D But then, like they say, you have to be careful for what you ask for, you might just get it!

I just posted a thread concerning long term pain after an ACDF. Would you guys mind posting there, too? My pain will shift now and then and sometimes there is little pain, but it always shows up again to remind me that it will always be there. And my cervical neuro's nurse having the nerve (LOL) to tell me that there is something wrong with me because I am still hurting 8 months out.
