View Full Version : SteriStrips after Neck Surgery

After neck surgery, my steri-strips have remained on now for about 19 days. The oozing stopped after 2 days.

Since I keep the area pretty dry, these ster-strips seem to want to stay on forever.

What are the pros and cons of me moistening the area and removing the strips. My doc did say that was OK.

Perhaps I will then apply vitE or Mederma immediately?

Any feedback on this?

Hi, i would start with allowing the area to get really wet while showering/bathing. This is usually how my patients have had their strips loosen. They are meant to drop off after a certain amount of time. This usually occurs because of the water.
So if you are allowed to shower , which you should be by now, let them get real wet. pat dry and they should start to drop off within a few days. Please do not pull at them,as it can cause pressure on the incision and or skin irritation.
Hope that helps, Mel
