View Full Version : **My Myelogram**

Yesterday was my myelogram. My instructions were to drink 5-6 larges glass of water, juice, or soda pop before the procedure. So, I had 2 glasses of water first. Then I wanted some juice, so I filled a 24oz bottle with apple juice. I drank that in 45 min. By the time we got to the office my stomach was making these horrible sounds and was cramping (idiot)....you guessed it.....I had the runs!! I kept thinking I was so stupid!! It never crossed my mind! I thank God that the doc was 45min late, because it gave me time to....ummmm....clean out! LOL! I went every 10 min. (ding-bat!!)

I was then put on this table, on my belly, and they put this big, round pillow under my belly, ohhh, I hope it can take it. Arms at my sides, head up, chin under a small round pillow! This was SOOOO UNCOMFORTABLE!!! Cleaned my back, needle in, quite painful but it was gone fast. Then had this weird feeling: a burning/cool sensation when the dye went in. Then the pillow under belly came out, 5-8 xrays in different positions. Then to the CT Scan room, that took 10-15 mins. And we were done!

I was to lay down (not flat) for the next 24hrs, YUCK! But I did it!! I watched lots of tv, including the movies 'While You Were Sleeping' & 'Maid in Manhatten'. Dh got me everything.....he's so sweet! I slept fine. I was suppose to coninue laying down, but not as much for another 10 hrs today. I didn't exert myself any, but I didn't lay down either, and I'm fine. My back and butt are a tiny bit sore. But, I made it!!

congrats hon!

i haven't had one and i'm mighty glad! i asked my NS if i needed one done if he could do it while i was out in la-la land on the pre-op meds... he laughed and said i didn't need one done but if necessary he would do anything to minimize inflicting any more pain on me... maybe he forgot that when he did my neurological tests and poked me with a pin all over!!!
OUCH!!!

glad you're done with it dear...

Midge~

Whew! I was cringing while reading your post.....Flashbacks. It sounds like you've made it through like a true champion! A big relief to have that behind you, I'm sure. (And I don't mean the sore butt!) :) Don't stop pampering yourself just yet.

Take Care,

Hi Midge,

Oh my gosh! I can only imagine how that position felt. Head up . I haven't looked up in months. I can't even stand the thought. But you did it with a sense of humor, after getting a few things out of your system :D. I'm glad it's over for ya.

When do you get the results?

Glad your test went smooth as can be expected.

My first one was terrible.Got deathly sick and had to stay at hospital all day. That was 8 years ago.Was to have one done a few months ago and was scared silly. This time I went to differant hospital and it was a breeze. Had no problems don't know if it was hosp.or that things have improved that much

So glad things went good for you .Take it easy for awhile

Hi Midge,
Sorry this is late, but just wanted you to know how pleased I am that you're doing well. What an ordeal! I'm counting my blessings that I'm allergic to dye and won't ever have this :D Where were these docs during the Inquisition? Have they been reincarnated? Take it easy, hon. Know you're in my prayers

Just think thats over. I had a mylogram and I just thought to myself this is the first time I have ever had my feet straight up in the air and my head almost touching the floor. That is what it felt like to me. The person doing the test said he could not get the dye to move up my spine so he had to keep moving the table. At one point his assistant had to throw his arms across my legs to hold me in place. Once it was over he said it was the first time he ever had to move someone into that position to get the dye to go up the spine.

When do you get your results?

Wow More!! They didn't have to tilt my table very much at all! How uncomfortable that must have been!!

I get my results June 16th....not soon enough :D

midge,
I am glad that this is "behind" you now. These tests can be so nerve racking. Well it's all over now. I must say you certainly gave me some giggles over your predicament . How upsetting, talk about adding to your fear and discomfort.
I hope you are feeling well, June 16 is coming up and then you will know.
take care of yourself, and keep seeing the humour where you can find it. Mel
