Hey guys,

I returned to work on Tuesday. Suppose to only work 5 hours, but that's a laugh. My pain is alot worse. Guess I didn't realize how much you have to move your neck at work. Thank God for Lidoderm patches.

My NS will see me again in 6 wks to check for fusion.
Anyway, I'm glad to be back at work. Missed my friends.

Hey Lea, glad to read that you are back working again. Take care of yourself and don't work too hard. As for me, went to the neuro today, he said no work through July 21st, after I see the PM again. Oh well, looks like more cartoons with the little one :)

Take care, ya hear? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/jester.gif Jasmine

I wish I could stay home and watch cartoons :)

Good thing my job does not entail any lifting, but sitting on the phone and computer all day is killing me! My nerve pain is back in full swing. May have to call NS office. I can't take off anymore work. Husb lost his job and I am out of sick time :(

Hi Leah,
I am glad that you are back to work, but very sorry to hear that you are having such an increase in pain.
Are you back on modified duties? Perhaps, you should have a re-entry to your regular duties. You know like starting with modified hours with frequent short breaks to change position etc. And then gradually increase hours and duties. I know here that is how the hospitals work it, we go back on a modified work re-entry program, that is a preset plan, of gradually increased hours and duties. And it is usually monitored.I know it is hard to follow the modified, because of the need for nursing staff. But in the long run you will have a better chance of regaining and maintaining your full job description if you ease back into it safely.
Let your NS know how this is affecting you, and please take care of yourself. I hoope you have a good weekend, Mel

Melanie,

I have only been working 5 hours a day. Even tho I am a nurse, I am in administration and spent alot of time on the phone and at the computer. I was in horrendous pain tonite, and then I did a funny thing, I got up and took a short walk. It was amazing how much that helped the spasms, etc.

From now on, I will take frequent short breaks and not sit at the computer longer than 30 mins at a time. I have the kind of job where I can do that.

I will call my NS if this doesn't let up and see what he wants me to do.

Hi Lea,
Glad to see your back at work but please do take those breaks and maybe wear a collar to stop your neck moving so much. Just a thought. Perhaps the pain is saying take it a bit easier. Have you got a comfy chair? I found a high backed padded one helped me at work. I really find walking helpful also. Can you wander around at work, that would help, take a bath? (wishful thinking but wouldn't it be good).
How is your pain when resting? I am following your progress as my surgery is rapidly approaching. Take care,
Mel

Hi Lea,

Glad you're getting back into the swing of things. Take it slowly, one day at a time OK? Sorry to hear about your husbands job, but it could mean something better is coming along for him. :D
Keith
